British Virgin Islands - 2021, Session 3

Meet the Sea Senora Staff!

Location: West End, Tortola

Hello and welcome to the Sea Señora blog, where we will be sharing our journey with you. We would like to share some information about the staff that will be sailing with the session 3 shipmates.

We are so excited to welcome our new shipmates on board and begin sharing our love of the Caribbean Sea and the beautiful BVI with them! Our incredible team has been working hard to ensure all the necessary equipment has been tested and is properly prepped for our trip. Fuel, water, food, educational materials, and other gear have been reloaded onboard our vessels. Sea Señora, a 51-foot monohull, will house students working towards earning their Basic Sailing certifications along with a PADI Open Water Scuba Diver certification.
We are looking forward to many days of learning, new friendships, and fantastic adventures!

Kris (Skipper)
Kris started to sail when he was 12 years old, and it was instant love. Being out at sea meant absolute freedom for him, so he kept looking for every possibility to improve his knowledge and to spend more time on the water. When he turned 18, he got his first skipper qualification “C” category skipper license in Croatia. During this time, he also started to dive and got his open water diver qualification. It did not take long to realize that being at sea is his true calling, and he has to follow that path in life. The next step was to gain his RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification in the UK, which was an amazing experience and gave him the chance to learn yet another style of sailing and extension of his knowledge and understanding of this amazing art form.

Mackenzie (Dive Instructor)
Mackenzie grew up in Germantown, MD, just outside of Washington, D.C. After graduating from Penn State University, where she was a varsity springboard diver, she learned to scuba dive with her mom in Phuket, Thailand, and quickly fell in love with the underwater world. Afterward, she stayed in Asia for three years, earning her PADI Instructor certification in Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia. When not underwater, you can find Mackenzie coaching gymnastics, walking her dog, or surfing in the Outer Banks.

Carlie (Mate)
Carlie is from Sinking Spring, PA, a small town an hour from Philadelphia. She has loved scuba diving, watersports, and spending time outdoors her whole life, especially if that time was spent in the BVI. She received her PADI open water certification when she was 12 and knew that she had to make diving a significant part of her life. She took some time off from competitive swimming during the summer of 2013 to participate in an ActionQuest program, which inspired her to become a first mate working for AQ this year. Carlie graduated from Hamilton College in Upstate New York in May, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minors in Sociology and Law. She has participated in community service and environmental service initiatives in Fiji, Bali, and Hawaii and loves the adventure that traveling brings. In her free time, she enjoys going on long walks with her dog, skiing, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. She is very excited to be on the teaching side of ActionQuest, meet new people, and have a great summer with the AQ family.

We are so excited to meet the 11 students coming onboard tonight, and we cannot wait to share our love of the BVI with them over the next 3 weeks!
