Meet the Crew
Location: West End, Tortola
It’s a beautiful day here in our home port of West End, Tortola, and officially the start of the program! The dock is bustling with final boat preparations and staff eagerly awaiting the arrival of all of our students. Over the past week on Liberty, we’ve loaded food onto the boat, set up all of the dive gear, and have been getting more and more excited about the amazing adventure we’re about to have with our 12 shipmates.
Here is an introduction to the crew of Liberty:
Luke - Skipper
Luke originally hails from England and grew up dinghy sailing from a young age, which gave him a love of boats and the ocean. Luke won his first sailing regatta trophy at age 11. Ten years ago, he made the transition to work on yachts, with seven of those years spent in the Caribbean working on board charter yachts. He also started scuba diving in the BVI and is a Rescue Diver. He stands a full foot taller than Julie and is excited to start working with ActionQuest this summer.
Sydnei - Dive Instructor / medical
Despite being born and raised in the cold city of Chicago, the warm beaches and ocean have always called Sydnei’s name. A recent graduate from the University of Miami, Sydnei studied graphic design and art history. Living in Florida allows her to spend as much time as she can in the sun and near the water, diving year-round. She teaches scuba classes at a local dive shop and goes out for fun dives when she has the time. She recently received her Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification, and can teach 5 specialty certifications. She is a longtime alumnus of ActionQuest, starting as a student in 2015. Out of the water, she enjoys reading, playing tennis and badminton, and is an avid runner.
Stich - Dive Instructor
After she took her first breath underwater, Jessica knew she wanted to become a dive instructor. Once she completed her degree in Hospitality Management at The Ohio State University, she returned home to Florida to make that dream a reality. She loves teaching the open water class and seeing the excitement on student’s faces for the first time underwater. In her free time, she likes to stay active and try new restaurants.
