Caribbean Leeward Islands - 2019, Session 2

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

The crew of Breakaway has been hard at work over the past few days prepping for the start of session two. We are fully fooded, fueled, watered, and ready to get going on this session. We have shipmates arriving from all over, and we are so excited to meet all of them for the first time. During our next 21 days we are going to explore the islands of Saba, Statia, Nevis, Antigua, and St. Barths and do some amazing sailing and land-based activities. We can’t wait to kick-off for this adventure and get going on the water!

Here is an introduction of the crew on Breakaway:

Linda: Skipper/Dive Instructor/EMT

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Linda has spent a large amount of time bouncing around the world looking for new adventures that spike her interest. Having completed an M.Sc. in environmental toxicology, she works as an environmental consultant and skipper for high-speed RIB-boats in Sweden. Linda loves hanging out by the ocean, sailing, diving, and occasionally surfing. She is a PADI OW Scuba Instructor, Deck and Machine Officer VII (Swedish Yachtmaster), IYT Small Powerboat and RIB-master, and NAEMT Prehospital Trauma Life Support responder.

Margaux: Mate

Margaux was born and raised in Belmont, MA, a small town located outside of Boston. She started attending ActionQuest in 2015 as a shipmate where she learned to scuba dive and now is working as a sailing instructor. During the school year, she attends the University of Miami and is working towards a BS in Marine Science and Biology. She started sailing at a young age with her parents, bareboating around the British Virgin Islands and also sailing on a small lake in southern New Hampshire. When she is not scuba diving or sailing, she enjoys playing lacrosse, basketball, hiking, and skiing.

Justin: Divemaster/Mate

Justin is from the DC Metro Area and has been a shipmate at Action Quest 5 times. He first got his Open Water Scuba certification along with his basic sailing certification on Action Quest’s Vega voyage and went on to get his advanced scuba and sailing on the Carina voyage. Last year he got his rescue diver certification on the rescue voyage and has just recently achieved his divemaster. He recently graduated high school where he was an active participant in the school theater department and will be attending Virginia Tech this fall to study engineering. He is excited to meet the crew as this is his first summer as staff and is looking forward to setting sail for the leeward islands.
