Staff Update: Day 1
Location: West End, Tortola
After loads of preparation completed by the office team throughout the year and onsite here in the BVI, the time has finally come for shipmates to arrive. We are so excited to welcome them onboard and begin sharing our love of the Caribbean Sea and the beautiful BVI with them! Our incredible team has been working hard to ensure all the necessary equipment has been tested and is properly prepped for our trip. Fuel, water, food, educational materials, and other gear has been loaded onboard our vessels. Lascaris, a 51-foot monohull, will house students working towards earning their Basic Sailing certifications along with either a PADI Open Water Scuba Diver certification or a PADI Advanced Diver certification.
We are looking forward to 21 days of learning, new friendships, and fantastic adventures!
Here is an introduction of the crew of Lascaris:
Griffin- Skipper
Griffin was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up sailing in northern Minnesota. He found his true passion for sailing after he completed the Indian Ocean passage with Sea|mester as a student. Griffin is a sailing and medical professional, with multiple specialties in yacht engineering. He loves cruising around the Virgin Islands, visiting the locals, and inspiring young sailors.
Annie- Dive Instructor/Mate
Annie was born and raised in North Carolina, where she visited the beach frequently and developed a great respect for the marine world. When she was fifteen, she attended ActionQuest for the first time and fell head over flippers in love with diving and sailing. At 18, she joined the ranks of PADI as an Open Water SCUBA Instructor and has been teaching ever since. She enjoys working with young divers and believes teaching is the art of assisted self-discovery. Annie is going into her senior year at Northeastern University in Boston where she teaches diving to fellow students and spends as much time as possible on the water with Northeastern’s sailing team. In her spare time, she studies Business and Economics. When it’s extra cold outside, Annie can be found snowboarding or making baked mac and cheese. As an avid traveler who’s been to almost all of the continents (Antarctica I’m coming!), the BVI is still a favorite. This summer will be Annie’s fifth summer with AQ.
Davis- Mate
Davis was born in Lemoore, California, but grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended The Island School where she learned to scuba and free dive, and did aSea|mester voyage in the spring of 2018, sailing from South Africa to the Caribbean on S/Y Argo. Davis is currently studying Marine Science and Biology at the University of Miami. She spent her previous two summers teaching water sports at Camp Seafarer and is excited to join the AQ team! In her free time, Davis loves to explore and find good food. She also enjoys playing lacrosse, going on runs, drawing, and painting, and spending time outside.
