British Virgin Islands - 2018, Session 3

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

As day one of our third session is upon us, we three staff aboard Changes in Latitude are gearing up for an incredible journey. In anticipation of this great session, our flags have been raised, our scuba tanks filled and our decks scrubbed! With the next 16 days ahead of us, Changes is ready to set sail in the beautiful British Virgin Islands with 13 new students. During the session, our students, who are from all over the world, will be diving in some of the most pristine waters in the world. Our dolphin as Neptune students will practice identifying lots of interesting fish and corals and possibly even challenging themselves with some wreck, deep and night diving. We are so excited to show this group of shipmates the wonders of these incredible islands, and we know that the next 21 days are going to be memorable, adventurous and incredible!

Here is an introduction to the crew of Changes In Latitude:

Tim – Skipper/Dive Instructor

Coming from all the way across the pond Tim has spent much of his life on and around the water. Starting sailing from a young age Tim has represented Great Britain at an international level in a number of classes. He continued to both compete and coach whilst studying history at the University of Southampton, and since graduating has been working and traveling his way around the world. During a stint in Australia, he spent 18 months working on a catamaran off the Queensland coast as first mate, where he sought to spend as much time as possible on or under the water. After this, he moved to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands to become a scuba instructor and continues to stay either on, in, or as close to the ocean as social norms allow. Beyond this, his hobbies include surfing, skiing, and kickboxing.

Hannah – Dive Instructor/Mate

Hannah was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Hannah has always loved the water and was a high-performance swimmer for eight years. Hannah completed her dive instructor training in Vancouver, British Columbia while attending The University of British Columbia. Hannah now attends the University of Tampa pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology with a minor in Chemistry. This is Hannah’s third summer working as a part of the GXG Staff family and is looking forward to the amazing experiences to come this summer. In her free time, Hannah enjoys training for half marathons, biking, hiking, canoeing, camping, mountain climbing, and spending time outside. Hannah has loved traveling from a very young age and was the youngest female to climb Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of 11.
Maddy- Dive Instructor/Mate/WFR

Maddy grew up in Toronto, Canada. She attends the University of British Columbia, where she studies marine biology. Despite her landlocked location, Maddy has loved the ocean and marine biology ever since she was young and has been diving for as long as she can remember. She has had a fascination with marine mammals in particular ever since she visited family in South Africa when she was just 5 years old. Maddy is a qualified Open Water Scuba Instructor as well as a Wilderness First Responder. For several years she was a shipmate herself at ActionQuest and has developed a strong love and passion for the British Virgin Islands. When she is not scuba diving, she can be found skiing at Whistler, skateboarding, climbing, or doing yoga with her friends.
