Staff Update Day 1
Location: West End, Tortola
Today's the day, the sun is shining! We have been working round the clock for the last two days preparing for our final session of the summer. We are all excited and ready- all we are missing is our shipmates. Everything's lining up to become a great experience for everyone coming down here for the adventure of our life.
"I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.”
- John Muir
Here is an introduction to the crew of Great White:
Cat: Skipper/Dive Instructor/Medic
Cat hails from the great state of Texas, where she was born and raised, though she now Seattle home. She is a PADI certified Open Water Scuba Instructor and has been teaching diving for 8 years. Along with that, Cat is also a captain and a member of the medical staff with her Wilderness First Responder certification. She has her IYT 200-ton Yachmaster and has just received her USCG Captains License as well! She was lucky enough to do an Atlantic crossing with Seamester in 2010 and hopes to one day circumnavigate the globe under sail! She has worked in the Caribbean for 7 summers, ranging from the beautiful BVI all the way down to Grenada. This past year Cat spent quite a bit of time traveling through Europe and Tanzania and actually summited Mt. Kilimanjaro! She enjoys skiing the beautiful mountains of the Pacific Northwest, riding around on her long board, listening to podcasts and laughing at her own jokes. Cat graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2011, where she studied International Political Economy. Overall, she's pretty neat!
Taylor: Dive Instructor/Mate
Taylor is returning to ActionQuest for his second summer as a Dolphin instructor and scuba instructor. He received his degree in marine biology from the University of Hawaii, where he studied the communications of False Killer Whales and studied abroad with Sea|mester. Since last summer, Taylor has been working year round for ActionQuest at the home office in Florida, road tripping the East Coast visiting schools, and working on Ocean Star down in Antigua during her yard period. In his free time, Taylor likes to hike, camp, and play soccer. His favorite dive in the BVI is Mario Reef on Ginger Island and loves seeing octopi and squid on night dives.
Maddy: Divemaster/Mate
Maddy is a lover of all things diving, sailing and marine biology related. Having grown up in Toronto, Canada, she found ActionQuest at a young age as a way to spend as much time diving and sailing as possible. She is obtaining her Bachelors of Science with a specialization in Marine Biology at the University of British Columbia. A past shipmate herself, Maddy has her Divemaster and Wilderness First Responder certifications along with multiple years of experience as a shipmate on ActionQuest. In the next two years, she hopes to obtain her Dive Instructor and Yachtmaster certifications.
