Caribbean Leeward Islands - 2016, Session 2

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

Arrival day is here! Whilst 10 excited shipmates have been busy gathering up their last minute supplies and packing them up, the crew of Sambamba have eagerly been anticipating the arrival of our latest adventurers. What await us are 21 days of incredible experiences in some of the most picturesque locations the Leeward Islands have to offer. In the build up Sambamba has been stocked with an array of delicious provisions. Ruth has been busy conducting final checks on the ships systems ensuring all is in great working order. Kris has spent some time developing a great itinerary. We are both incredibly excited to welcome our crew on board and share with them all the adventures over the next 21 days. Here is a quick introduction to the staff aboard Sambamba this session.

Ruth: Skipper

Ruth grew up in Chester, England. She has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, and began her career working as an engineer on oil rigs in Africa, Europe and the Middle East where she found her passion for a life of adventure out at sea. Ruth went on to pursue her dream of becoming a Captain by gaining her MCA Yachtmaster and PADI Divemaster. She is now also an RYA Cruising Instructor and Powerboat Instructor, and teaches sailing year-round to people from all walks of life as well as skippering boats. When not sailing or diving, she spends her time on the water, surfing and kite-surfing or in the mountains teaching snowboarding. She has traveled allover the world and hopes to, one day, complete sailing around it too.

Kris: Mate

Kris was born in Rotterdam, Holland, and spent most of his formative years growing up in the Middle East and England. He graduated from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, with a Masters degree in Oceanography. Following a strong family connection to the sea, Kris was naturally inclined towards a life revolving around the Oceans. Kris joined the Sea|mester Operational team in2009 acting as a member of the Marine Science Faculty, Diving Instructor, Mate and Captain. Having spent the last 6 years and over 75'000 nautical miles sailing on board both Sea|mester vessels, Kris has migrated to Sarasota taking up an Operational Manager's role within the office. Kris' professional credentials include PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, EFR Instructor, IYT Master of Yachts 200 tons Oceans, STCW95.
