British Virgin Islands - 2016, Session 2

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

Lady Aubrey is so excited to welcome her second group of summer 2016 students! After a fantastic first session, the staff have been spending the last couple days preparing and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our twelve shipmates. We have stocked the boat with dry food, fresh food, PADI open water diving manuals, IYT sailing books, waterski gear, medical supplies, cleaning supplies and everything else necessary to run an awesome trip- now we just need the crew! Our shipmates are from Italy, New York, Texas, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Virginia, New Jersey, South Carolina, Lebanon, and Connecticut, and are all part of the Vega (intro to sailing and diving) program. We can’t wait to go on our first sail and snorkel tomorrow, and for all the adventures to come! For additional updates during the trip, follow ActionQuest on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Lady Aubrey:

Shannon: Skipper

Shannon grew up in England by the sea in the home of the Cornish pasty. She started sailing on an old round the world racing yacht whilst at university and has since gained her RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification. Studying for her Marine Geography degree helped her learn a lot about the ocean environment, and she enjoys being involved in different conservation efforts. Shannon's previous jobs include hydrographic surveyor(charting the seabed) and high ropes instructor (swinging around monkey style in trees). Since finishing university Shannon has been sailing in the UK, Australia, and most recently working on yachts in the Caribbean & Bermuda.

Anna: EMT/Mate

Anna grew up in landlocked Western Massachusetts and discovered her love for the sea when she became an ActionQuest shipmate at age 16. After two summers as a shipmate and a year of high school onboard S/Y Ocean Star, she joined the ActionQuest staff in 2000. Anna graduated in 2004 from the University of Vermont with degrees in psychology and sociology and spent four years volunteering as an EMT on a local ambulance. During the year Anna lives in Washington, DC and spends her free time volunteering with a local dog rescue organization.

Justin: Dive Instructor/ Mate

Justin grew up in Los Angeles, which is where his love for the ocean began. He has been a part of five ActionQuest crews including a Lifeworks community service trip to Ecuador. This fall Justin will be starting his junior year at Indiana University where he studies Informatics with a business cognate. Justin became a certified divemaster in 2015 and then became an instructor in 2016.
