Staff Update Day 1
Location: West End, Tortola
The crew of Squeakybrat is anxiously awaiting the arrival of our shipmates! Squeakybrat, aka Squeaky, Squeaky B, SqueaksMcgee is clean, the water tanks are full, and the food is stowed away. Ian, Rachael, and I are so excited to meet our Vega, Barracuda, and Carina students. Squeaky will soon have 12 new shipmates from the Unites States, Venezuela, France, and Guatemala learning, living and sailing together for one of the best summers of their lives. The water is crystal clear, the skies are blue, and we could not be more excited to meet the smiling faces of our students!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Squeaky B:
Ian: Skipper/EMT
Hailing from the city of champions, Ian enjoyed his childhood adventuring in Boston's suburbs and learned to sail on the waters of the mighty Charles River. From there, he attended the University of Rhode Island, where he graduated from in 2013 with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering with a specialization in autonomous vehicle and instrumentation design. While at university, Ian got involved with the volunteer emergency medical services corps on campus and earned an EMT-B license. Since graduation, he has been working on the water for the Block Island Ferry Company and working on the streets of Providence, Rhode Island, as an EMT. Ian began working with ActionQuest in the summer of 2013 and is excited to experience his third summer in the beautiful British Virgin Islands, working and learning together with students and staff.
Kelly: Dive Instructor/Mate
Kelly grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and began scuba diving while attending the University of Arkansas. She sailed with Seamester on Argo in the Fall of 2012 and completed her IYT Master of Yachts 200 ton, PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, and a B.A in Communications. Kelly works on the admissions team for Global Expeditions Group full time in the Sarasota office. She is so excited to meet her shipmates and teach scuba diving this summer!
Rachael: Dive Instructor/Mate
Rachael was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida. In 2012 she began to pursue bachelor's degrees in Biology and French Language at Auburn University in Alabama (War Eagle!), where she also races with the Auburn University Sailing Team. Rachael was a longtime shipmate with AQ, starting in 2008, and became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor in 2013. After graduation, she plans to acquire a master's degree in Science Education and share her passion for the natural world with her students. Rachael has studied both French and Spanish for over ten years and loves learning about different languages and cultures. She loves being in, around, or on top of the water and has traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean to pursue her love of diving. Music is an enormous part of Rachael's life, and she currently sings in Chamber Choir, Women's Choir, and Gospel Choir at Auburn.
