British Virgin Islands - 2015, Session 2

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

The crew of Spindrift- Justin, Tina, and Bryant are very excited to be beginning session two. Session one was a huge success with lots of awesome diving, sailing, adventure, and new friends. The session one crew left us in a great way, and after a day of sprucing up, Spindrift is shiny, organized, and ready to go again. So session two is only looking up. It was awesome revisiting many of my favorite dive sites and sails earlier this summer, and I am pumped to do it again. Tina will be leading the Neptunes through some advanced diving certifications and specialties. Well, dive some incredible historical shipwrecks like the Rhone and some awesome natural dive sites like the Playgrounds where eagle rays are a frequent sighting. I'll be leading the Dolphins of Spindrift on a lot of the same dives as the Neptunes, and we will also be doing a lot of other really awesome science activities. I am looking forward to the creative research projects that our students will create, and cannot wait to dissect a shark with them. Our third team member, Divemaster Justin, is very excited to help out on both programs and lead our students on some great dives as well.
The weather today in the BVI was fantastic, warm, sunny skies and fair winds. Our forecast looks good, and it's going to be great to be back out on the water soon!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Spindrift II:

After spending a semester abroad with Sea|Mester in 2008, Tina became absorbed with the marine world. She graduated from Bard College with a BA in Environmental Studies in 2010, after which she turned her attention to scuba diving. Tina has worked as a Divemaster and Instructor in Central America, Europe, and the US. She holds qualifications such as PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, US Coast Guard Medical Person in Charge, PADI Emergency First Response Instructor (including Care for Children), and eleven specialty instructor ratings. As of spring 2015, Tina has finished her graduate studies at New York University, receiving an MA in Environmental Conservation Education. She is thrilled to be returning for her fourth summer with Action Quest. When not underwater, Tina can be found playing her viola, trying out new recipes in the galley, and planning her next dive.
