Staff Update Day 1!
Location: West End, Tortola
Since we said our goodbyes to our second session shipmates, we've been busy getting Gemini II ready for our next adventure. We have loaded the galley with lots of fun and tasty food for a wonderful 19-day adventure. The ship and sails have been checked for our eventual circumnavigation of Tortola and the British Virgin Islands. Gemini has been cleaned, watered, and the cabins readied. We are excited to meet our new shipmates and share our knowledge of sailing, diving and boat life for what we hope to be an action-packed third session with Jake, Carl & Lisa
Here is an introduction to the staff of Gemini:
Jake- skipper, dive instructor
Now celebrating his fourth year with ActionQuest, Jake is the Divemaster instructor and director of diving for sail side A. Brought into diving by his mom, Jake has experience diving all over the world, from the murky, freezing waters of the Great Lakes to the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean. After returning home from a life-changing trip with ActionQuest in 2005, Jake knew he had to become involved with the program, and now as an instructor, Jake strives to provide his shipmates with the same incredible experience he had. Jake recently made the move to Sarasota, Florida, to take his dream job working for ActionQuest full time.
Lisa-dive instructor/mate
Even as a child, Lisa could be found adventuring on the lakes and rivers of Wisconsin. After completing a B.S. in Zoology & Biological Aspects of Conservation in 2004, she immediately set out to quench her wanderlust. Being passionate about human-powered travel, Lisa has traversed many countries on foot and pedal bikes. Wanting to get back to the water, she pursued her first professional dive rating in Honduras in 2011 and has not dried out since. Lisa is now a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and is planning to advance her sailing and teaching skills as an educator with ActionQuest.
Karl-mate/EMT
Karl has loved the water since he was little, growing up in Annapolis, Maryland, and at a very young age, he learned to sail. He is currently enrolled as an undergraduate student studying marine biology at Eckerd College located in St.Petersburg, Florida. As a senior in high school, Karl performed a research project on tonic immobility, which is a common reaction in most sharks, on smaller bony fish. Taking part in a voyage with Seamester from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, Karl received his ICC and PADI Rescue Diver certifications and loved the experience. He is also an EMT and volunteer firefighter in PG County, Maryland. Karl loves the water, and when given the opportunity he is more than happy to jump in and try out any activity
