British Virgin Islands - 2014, Session 1

Staff Update Day 1

Location: West End, Tortola

Welcome to MOKO JUMBIE! (Which must be said loud and proud with a Caribbean accent!) We are so excited to meet our shipmates! Your staff has spent the last few days preparing Moko Jumbie for a summer; her crew will never forget! Our cabinets are stocked which delicious treats and the beds have been made with the softest of sheets.

As soon as the shipmates arrive, they will be greeted by our smiling faces and chose the cabin they wish to call home for the next three weeks! The Lifeworks crew will be sailing two 46-foot catamarans during our first session with ten students on board each vessel. There are four cabins, a massive salon area, top-notch galley, and a large deck trampoline (which is perfect for sleeping under the stars). Anna, Torin, and Kelly are excited to work together on an amazing vessel with students from all over the globe. Our flags are flying high as we all look forward to meeting our students and the start of an amazing adventure together!
- The Crew of Moko Jumbie

Here's an introduction to the staff onboard Moko Jumbie:

Torin- Skipper

Born and raised in Vermont, Torin's background is deep in snow sports. He spends winters coaching alpine ski racing part-time and managing a family ski shop. After enrolling in Sea|mester in 2000 as a shipmate, Torin joined Lifeworks in 2003 as a skipper and now directs our British Virgin Islands program. Torin has a long background in community service, starting alternative youth programs with the local recreation and parks department in his hometown, as well as recycling programs in the local elementary school.

Kelly- Mate

Kelly grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from the University of Arkansas. She sailed with our college program Sea|mester onboard S/Y Argo in the fall of 2012. Since then, she has explored her passion for sailing and scuba diving by obtaining her IYT Master of Yachts and PADI Divemaster certification. Kelly joined our office team in the Spring of 2013 and works with Lifeworks admissions and enrollments during the year. This will be her first summer in the islands, and she is so excited to meet the students she has been working with over the past year!
Anna- Mate

Anna is from Siler City, North Carolina. She graduates in December 2014 from North Carolina State University with a degree in Marine Sciences. She was a shipmate on ActionQuest for two summers and a student on Sea|mester, sailing Argo from the BVIs to Tahiti in the spring of 2013. She then headed to the BVIs for her first summer working for Lifeworks and ActionQuest. She has her MCA Master of Yachts limited and is a Rescue diver. Anna loves sailing, the ocean, traveling, and pizza and cannot wait for her second summer on Lifeworks!
