Staff Update Day 1
Location: West End, Tortola
The tradewinds are blowing, the bunks are made, the food is stowed, and Tor, Nash, and I are all eager and ready. Now, all we need are our students! We have been busy preparing for our final trip of the summer. This should be a fun one; Tor has set up some amazing diving at some of the best sites in the BVI. Nash and I are getting ready to tag-team teach some sailing skills. As the shipmates arrive throughout the day from all over the world, we are looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know each other over the next 17 days!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Spindrift:
Jack- skipper
Born in Colorado, Jack moved with his family at an early age and enjoyed an international upbringing in South America. When he was a child in Argentina, Jack first started sailing windsurfers and small dinghies on the River Plate. After returning to the United States, Jack raced lasers as a junior sailor. He returned to Colorado to study Economics at Fort Lewis College, graduating with a B.Sc. Since 2009, Jack has been a team member on ActionQuest and Lifeworks and joined Sea|mester as a mate in 2010. Jack currently holds an IYT Master of Yachts 200-ton sail and power endorsed, as well as a PADI Divemaster certification.
Tor- dive instructor/mate
Tor was born and raised in northern California and attended the University of Oregon where she graduated with a degree in Human Physiology. She discovered her love for fish and diving off the Oregon coast. She was a Sea|mester student in ’08, sailing from Australia to Thailand. She couldn’t get enough of the Sea|mester, ActionQuest/Lifeworks life, so she became a scuba instructor and came back to work at ActionQuest last summer. In the offseason, she teaches skiing/snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. She loves working with the youth and outdoor adventuring!!!
Nash-mate
Jimmy Buffet was a major influence in Nash's life, and how he made his way down the island. Chasing the dream of a pirate he first boarded an ActionQuest vessel in the summer of 09 and has been hooked ever since. Not being able to get enough of the lifestyle he naturally pursued Sea|mester and continued following his time as a student by staying on board Ocean Star for the delivery from Antigua to Tampa, Florida, followed by working on board as crew for the refit. Three months in the yard, followed by a twelve-day passage, he has now found himself back in the place where it all began. The ocean is not sole passion mind you; he also enjoys pursuing the arts, especially music (dubstep specifically) and anything else from skateboarding to table tennis.
