Location: Statia
Today we woke up bright and early, ready to explore the island Statia. We had a light breakfast consisting of cereal and pan au chocolates. We climbed onto the dingy and motored to shore. We were granted our phones, and we were given the ok to go wild and be free. Rainey, Gala, Ainsley, Adam, Kieran, and I hiked up a volcano. Rainey’s dreams came true, and she was able to scream down into the volcano, “I’m so happy to hear!!”
Meanwhile, Maison, Julia, Brennan, and Ella explored the island. After the hike, all the certified divers had the chance to go explore the marine park and swim between sunken ships and barges. After scuba diving and a bit of island exploration, we all did covid tests.
We got on Shape up and got going with fresh water showers. We then got to practice our new skills, and the Mediterranean anchored to the dock, where we got water and hoisted the dingy up to get ready for our voyage. Before setting off on our six-hour-long sail Ella and Gala dabbled in learning how to make rice and beans. Surprisingly we were actually able to eat the food after a couple of hours of Ella and Gala running around with question marks on their faces. Luckily Rainey came to the rescue and showed them the way. After dinner, we set off to Nevis. Maison, Ella, and I started off with the first watch that lasted from 20:00 to 23:00. We had a great time watching the shooting stars and the Milky Way clouds while at the same time admiring the bioluminescence in the water. Ella and I had a fun time when we played a little prank on Rainey after our shift was finished. We pretended the holding tanks were leaking and that the boat was capsizing. (It was not, and she quickly found that out). Julia, Gala, and Brennan had the second watch, and they made sure we got safely to Nevis and managed to get the dingy down in the darkness. At 02:00, we were officially moored up and all ready to go to bed.
