British Virgin Islands - 2021, Session 3

Sick Tests and Sail Tests

Location: West End, Tortola

The atmosphere aboard High on a Breeze was pleasant as we sat down for a simple breakfast of cereal and yogurt. Almost all of the shipmates had turned in extra early the previous night and were relaxing while enjoying the benefits of a long sleep. A quick motor to the dock for a much-needed water resupply went smoothly, though instructions to change into appropriate clothing for the day in town ahead were met with disgruntled mumbles. With shoes on our feet for only the third time in the last 15 days, the shipmates headed to town, stopping first to receive paperwork for our final COVID test of the trip. Rumors of a slightly more pleasant test than the brain poking swabs of the past were abundant as we entered the testing room. Unfortunately, these were dreadfully wrong. Luckily, any uncomfortable feelings were immediately wiped away with delicious smoothies and bagels from Omar’s cafe. Town in West End was a great opportunity to meet friends from other boats and shop for souvenirs and gifts that some readers of this blog will probably be receiving. As we finished our day in town, we raised sails and headed into the open water for the final installment of our sailing exam, the practical test. Shipmates demonstrated their newly learned skills as we sailed from West End in Tortola to Sandy Spit. Dinner was cooked, and we cleaned up after another successful day.
