Location: Antigua

This morning we woke up around 7:00 to cereal for breakfast. After we finished eating, we went over our game plan for the day. Since we didn’t do the hike to Sherly Hights yesterday, we decided to do it this morning. Once we were ready to go, we hopped into the dinghies to get to the start of the hike. We had to walk around a mile on the road to get to the trailhead, but once we got there, the hike was easy. There were lots of rocks in the first half of the hike, and it reminded me of a dried-up creek. The second half of the hike was steeper and sunnier, but we all got up alright. I was impressed with how well Shawn did the hike because he did it with a sprained ankle and sandals. When we got to the top, we could see high above most of the island. We were all very hot, so we went into a restaurant to get sodas and water.

When we were inside, a couple of girls from Harbor House and I didn’t have money, so Lauryl spotted us. After a couple of minutes of rest, we went outside for a history lesson led by Riley. Then we all gathered for photos and started heading back down. On the trail, we came to a fork in the road and couldn’t tell which way to go. Mateo, Hayes, Lawson, and a bunch of boys from Harbor House went the other way. When we got to the bottom, everyone else and I were expecting to wait for them because we went the way we came from, but when we got down, they were waiting for us. Turns out they went the way we originally were meant to go, which was a lot shorter. On our way back, Stella started running, and Lauryl and I joined her. After getting back to the boat, we immediately left to go on a tour of Nelson’s dockyard, which taught us about how they fixed the boats that came into Antigua.

We then went back to the boat to have white Tuscan bean soup. After lunch, we headed down to Antigua Sailing School to dinghy sail. Some of us partnered up, and some of us made groups of four. I ended up being partners with Henry, who is apparently a very talented dinghy sailor. When we were sailing Henry took control of the boat and i jumped onto Nate and Giles boat and capsized it which was very funny. After two hours of sailing we pulled the boats out of the water and headed over o the laundry mat to finally get our laundry back. We all put away our laundry and had below-deck showers. Now we are getting ready for our BBQ. Riley is cooking bacon for burgers, and it smells super good.

Personal note: Happy late birthday, Mom! I miss you and Dad so much, but I’m having a great time. Send me more photos of Rocco and Leo for the next time I have my phone. Love you!
