Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
This morning was a busy one, with everyone waking up at 7:30ish so the staff could attend a meeting. While they were gone, we prepared a delicious breakfast of pancakes and a small pot of coffee. Upon the staff’s return, we raised anchor and sailed to Trellis Bay for two hours of shore time. The boys sprinted down the road to a secluded restaurant while the girls went to the restaurant just off the dock. By the time the girls began to get their orders, the boys had already meandered their way back to the dock in order to do some grocery shopping. Besides the restaurants and grocery store, there was also a small store selling various types of souvenirs, ranging from t-shirts to metal sculptures to woodblock prints. Many AQ students were here, looking for items to bring back as gifts for family and friends. After lunch had been had and shopping had been completed, there began a protracted period of waiting for the dinghies to arrive and take us back to Nacho. Once back at Nacho, we set sail for the nearby marina in order to refill our freshwater and gas before heading back out to sea. This process was complicated by the fact that we dropped the O-ring, which prevents water from sloshing out while underway. After some consideration and the use of a sanitized boat hook, all was well. With our little adventure on land completed, we enjoyed a quick motor over to Musk Mellon, where we prepared dinner. We then all put our gear together in order to night dive the Sand Highway. The Divemasters were split among several boats to perform various jobs for the different groups. Dive completed, everyone returned to the boat for a quick bite of cake before heading to bed.
