Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Following breakfast, we started our morning with our first activity today, diving. As Lucas & Asha got to do the last of their confined dives, Cora went on her first ever Open Water Dive. Meanwhile, Enya, Ainsley, Lily, Lucas, Marlow, Quin, Declan, Max, and I were stoked to extend the limits of our depth while diving by doing our Deep Dive. We went to a depth of 66 feet/ 20 meters. We got to crack an egg underwater and see it float around because of the pressure, and also see how starkly colors change as we go deeper. Several people saw stingrays today, and the Sand Highway of Muskmelon Bay was a truly beautiful dive site. Our next rotation was Boat Systems, where we learned how to use Charts, Compass, & other tools that help navigate while you are sailing.
During this rotation, Lucas & Asha did their first ever Open Water dives, too! After that, we had a mac and cheese sandwich for lunch. Then, we had a short hike planned. Initially, everyone was not too eager to go hiking on such a hot day. However, the hike was actually quite nice, with beautiful views at the top and an amazing place to go swimming in the rocks at the bottom. The next activity after that was water sports, where some people chose to go Water Skiing or Kneeboarding. Everybody was super excited today because of the barbecue at the beach. Many people got to talk to old friends from last summer or make new friends from other boats. The barbecue lasted from 6 to 7:30, but the fun didn’t stop there. We got to raft alongside the boat Gap Year and chat with the students, hopping from one boat to another to hang out with our friends. As we are soon approaching the two-week mark, we’re all going to savor the last week, and today has been an extremely fun day.
