Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today we round the way-point that marks our journey as halfway. The past week and a half has flown by, but at the same time it seems as though we have been a crew together for an eternity. Everybody has been working really hard to achieve their scuba and sail certifications. All of the open water divers passed their scuba exam and have begun their open water dives. Mason, Henry, and Manuel have been doing an amazing job on their dives with their instructor, Julie. It’s as if they’ve been diving for years. Yesterday they even saw a turtle. Carly, Frankie, and Giacomo just finished their naturalist specialty and all of the book work for their advanced and boat diver certifications. Frankie and Giacomo got to dive a site called the Chimneys today, which had some awesome rock and coral formations. Carly wasn’t able to dive because of her foot, but she has a great attitude and is looking forward to getting back in the water to finish her certifications. With race day getting closer, the entire boat has been getting excited. On our way to Vixen Point Astrid hit 9.1 knots with Sophie at the helm. They’ve even been making plans for a race day flag. Everybody is taking turns on the helm and is doing an amazing job. Diana proved to be an all star at wakeboarding at Mountain Point, and impressed everyone with her skills. Elle has had a wonderful time with the Lifeworks program, and came back from a day on shore with local school children with some awesome stories. Zach and Ralph never fail to lift our spirits, and we can always count on them to jump in and lend a hand before even being asked. The trip has flown by thus far, and we can’t wait to see what the second half has in store for Astrid.
