It’s hard to believe it’s already been over a week since we pulled off the dock at Soper’s Hole! The past ten days have been filled with lots of diving (with some turtle sightings!), everyone passing their final PADI open water scuba exams, some awesome sailing around Tortola and up the Drake Passage, and a boat of shipmates who started the trip as strangers but are starting to act like family. Guillaume has been lending his master chef skills in the galley and helping the boat learn French. Will and Eduardo have proven their sailing mastery in the small Pico sailboats they sail during rotation days- beating everyone in races, so they tell me. Josh has become the knot king on board and is always eager to perfect his technique and learn new knots. Ben and Christian have taken to the water and have demonstrated they will become fantastic scuba divers. Kevin is taking the seas by storm and does an amazing job commanding the vessel each time he’s at the helm. Jackson’s knowledge of sail theory is becoming extensive, and he is always excited to learn new concepts. Harrison’s background in scuba diving has made him a huge asset in our scuba theory classes, and he does a great job of helping out in class. Liam, Tucker, and I are extremely pleased with how the first half of the trip has gone, and we can’t wait to see what the second half will bring.
