Location: West End, Tortola

The crew of Salsa is super excited to welcome new faces and begin our adventure! We have spent the last couple of days preparing the boat, filling her with food, diving books, and sailing equipment. We are looking forward to beginning the 21 day long expedition around the beautiful British Virgin Islands and getting our shipmates started on their journey to becoming qualified sailors and SCUBA divers. Along the way we will visit a host of spectacular locations and enjoy activities like waterskiing, wakeboarding, small boat sailing, and windsurfing. We can’t wait to start making memories together!

Jake- Skipper/WFR

Often described as “the world’s worst dancer” by his students, Jake is easily recognizable by the constant smile on his face. Working full time with Global Expeditions Group has been Jake’s dream job ever since he was a student in 2005, and each year Jake works hard to bring his same unbelievable experience to every student. Having directed both the diving and sailing operations of programs in the British Virgin Islands, Jake plays a hands-on role during the summer as a skipper and PADI Instructor. During the rest of the year, Jake manages enrollment and business development in our Sarasota office. Whether working with individual students or larger school groups, Jake’s goal remains the same: to provide an incredible experiential education program.

Ashley – Dive Instructor/Mate

Ashley was born and raised on the coast of New Jersey, where her passion for the sea first blossomed. During her sophomore year at Roger Williams in Rhode Island she studied abroad with Seamester, where she sailed from the BVI to Tahiti on S/Y Argo. After graduating with a degree in marine biology she worked onboard New Jersey’s official tall ship A. J. Meerwald, in Washington state on Zodiac, and has most recently spent time on Ocean Star during her refit period in Antigua. Her favorite animal is the sea turtle and she can’t wait to be in the BVI and diving with them again!

Mason – Mate

Mason started sailing as a middle schooler in the Berkeley Marina with UC Berkeley. As he got older he went back many times and eventually helped with the teaching of young sailors. He went on to sail in the Channel Islands and with ActionQuest in the BVI. As his love for sailing grew he started looking for ways to make a career out of sailing. This drew him back to ActionQuest and went on their 3 month Seamester trip. After obtaining the necessary qualifications he took the 100 ton USCG Masters license exam and now is a licensed captain looking to show others the joy of sailing and adventure. While not at sea he has a love for reading stories of adventure and travels yet to be had and exotic places to be explored.
