Location: The Bight, Norman Island
After yesterday’s shore day, Lascaris plunged into another dive day, our first in a little while. Our dive site today was the wreck of the Rhone, a mailing vessel which traveled from England to Brazil at speeds twice as great as the Lascaris reaches under motor power. The Rhone was in the midst of a devastating hurricane when a misjudged tactical decision sent her and her crew hurtling into the rocks of Salt Island, whose residents saved 27 of the Rhone’s passengers. The wreck made for a fascinating dive site and served as the Vega students first wreck dive and deepest dive. After a lunch of ramen, the crews of Lascaris and Sea Senora went hiking on the cliffs of Salt Island. Tonight is our last night on the water and marks the end of a truly incredible voyage.
