We could not be happier for our new group of shipmates to arrive! Pure Joy’s fridges are filled with fresh food, our bookshelves are full of PADI books, PFD’s are on the lines, and excitement is in the air. We cannot wait to welcome our 13 Neptune and Dolphin students to their new home. Hopefully, they’re ready for the best summer ever!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Pure Joy:
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Emelia started with ActionQuest in 2008 as a shipmate. She joined the AQ staff as a Divemaster in 2013 and is now a PADI Scuba Instructor and Yachtmaster 200ton captain. Emelia graduated from the University of San Diego in December 2016 and is moving to Los Angeles to work in film. When Emelia is not sailing or scuba diving, you can find her writing her next screenplay or flying through the air on a trapeze.
Lucy- Dive Instructor/Mate
Lucy’s mission is to educate others about marine science and SCUBA diving and spread the word about conservation. This has led her to a Masters degree in Marine Biology at the University of Southampton (U.K.) and to dive around the world. It does not matter where she dives; Lucy is always fascinated in learning species and habitat identification. By volunteering and working with various different governments and institutes Lucy has built specialisms in both temperate and tropical marine research, specializing in habitat mapping with GIS. Lucy currently works seasonally at her new activities center in the Seychelles where her roles include: business manager, head instructor (PADI MSDT), resident marine biologist and skipper. Island life has become something of a norm to Lucy, who enjoys its proximity to the natural world. Where possible she does travel with an electric keyboard to keep her piano skills fresh. Whilst back in civilization you will often find Lucy on the netball court or the swing jive dance floor making up for lost moves!
