Today, we all woke up around 7 am to the Lion King song “The Circle of Life” on full blast. It took me a few seconds to realize that I wasn’t dreaming, but we headed up for breakfast, and our chefs, B and Ella, made eggs for our first meal of the day. When looking into the bowl full of scrambled yolk, it didn’t look very appetizing, but they ended up making a great breakfast. Although the breakfast was delicious, the dishes had A LOT of cleaning to do. Houston, Noah, Celeste, and Maren worked hard to make sure all of the dishes were clean and dry (and getting all the eggs out). After breakfast, we all got changed, and Will headed to a skipper meeting. While he was gone, all of us students were applying sunscreen when Garrison and Megan played music through the boat and turned it into a dance party. Noah played “his anthem,” which was “It’s Raining Men,” and had Megan and Garrison as his backup dancers.

When Will returned, we were told that we would be sailing today. I asked how long we would be, and Will said it would be 6 hours, so we quickly got to preparing to set sail. We were split into three groups that would rotate what we would do around the boat while sailing. Group one was me, Houston, Maren, and Celeste, and our first job was to undo the ropes from the mooring ball and learn how to tie off and store the extra ropes when we weren’t using them. After that, our group was practicing certain knots that would be important for sailing. While group number one was doing this, the other two groups got to relax and enjoy the nice weather, except for Julia, who was watching the dingy, making sure the rope didn’t get caught in anything. Once everything was set in place, we headed to the hard top to raise the sails. The clouds started to roll in, and the wind picked up, so it was a great day to sail. Claire was one of the few who helped raise the main sail at the beginning of the trip. It was a long sail, but we ended up having a lot of fun talking with each other while sailing. We then had our chefs make us dinner, and Aidan, even though he isn’t a chef today, helped with cooking. We then ended the night with our diving lessons and Sariah and Nadiya are excited to scuba dive for the first day tomorrow. And last but not least, we took a photo shoot with Patrick the Pineapple before dinner.
