Location: Trellis Bay
This morning was devastating in comparison to those that have led up to now, Mike left us. Many of us awoke to the song “Slipping Through My Fingers” as Mike was spirited away in a dinghy to his ferry. Strong emotions were evoked for many, especially Margot, Nora, and Liz, who even shed tears at his departure. His absence will be felt. On another note, though, it’s an all-girl crew now!! Breakfast was delicious pancakes courtesy of Maddie and Nate, just a little. We proceeded to have a short sail to Trellis Bay and anchor for some shore time. Ali and I volunteered to do the trash run, which was a short trip to hell, but maybe it’s just a Canadian thing to volunteer for the worst tasks. Trellis bay was a lovely spot to visit, everyone had the chance to stock up on snacks, which was incredibly necessary as we go through our snacks faster that you can say action quest. Nate also got himself some mango juice this time, and I really hope it remains unbothered by anyone but him, as his passion fruit juice supposedly did not. Everyone got some really cool shirts at this one shop along the shore. Everything available was really unique. Our boat all ordered from this same market, and most of us got our food within 10-30 minutes; however, Maddie was nowhere near as fortunate as the rest of the boat. Her order was lost, and even when in their system, it took forever for her food to come out. Mallory and I felt blessed with the ice cream and smoothies we had and the conversations that came from them with the locals.
At 1:45, we all returned to the dock to go home to Avizia, but as we left on our dinghy, Nora realized she’d forgotten her new shirts and performed an athletic feat in sprinting to retrieve them. Once back on board, we set sail. Anton and I spent the entire afternoon sailing alongside Nat, with Kayla, Mallory, and Ali popping in when they could. Nate took a glorious nap as we sailed through wonderful landscapes. Anton and I pretty much soloed the anchoring with Nat, truly putting our advanced sailing skills to work today. We anchored in a gorgeous bay and took our ocean showers to get ready for dinner. After dinner, Nate, Margot, and Nora went for a swim or a couple. Some parties wanted to swim a little more than others. Post-dinner activities included a dance party that lasted all the way until basic sailing’s sail chat. Anton and I had sadly been removed previously for our own, and that began earlier on Beso del Viento. Now, truly entering the evening with a bang, we are going to do blind karaoke.
