Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today, Ri and the staff started the morning bright and early sailing towards Savannah Bay. Ri woke up at 6 to start the sail. The students woke up a little later at 7. We then began two more chapters in our rescue diver book. With that, everyone finished taking naps and eating some snacks. When we arrived at Savannah Bay, all of us jumped in Rango (our dinghy) and headed towards the beach to practice our navigation skills. After all the headstands and competitions, we got picked up to go back to the boat and eat lunch. River then ate a peanut butter, jelly, ham, cheese, and lettuce sandwich. I then decided to try it, and honestly, it was not the worst I had ever eaten. Charly and Aria made fun of me, saying I was nasty, but I didn’t care. It was good. The skills we practiced on the beach were applied underwater on a shallow dive. We saw lots of trash because of the holiday that just passed, by the way Christmas is July 25th in the BVI. After putting away our gear, we passed the time by playing freaky uno once again. Logan, for some reason, was very good at it. Aria donated her sailor’s hat, so we wrote “freak” on the top of it. Lila was the first to be crowned after winning the first round after introducing the hat.
Ri then came to talk to us about what the plan was for later, and he said we had two hours of free time. We all wanted to jump off the boat, so of course, Charly had to teach the pink weenie. Basically a dive but you tuck your arms in and scream pink weenie. Yeya, unfortunately, didn’t do so well and belly-flopped, which looked like it hurt so bad. All of us came together, set up our gear for the second time, and practiced towing tired and panicked divers. Instead of yelling help, which would’ve got other boats’ attention, we yelled freaky instead. It wasn’t our choice. It was Lindsays. Danielle had lots of fun doing this and wasn’t prepared for it when Gene started yelling, and she had to save him. Avi definitely loved being a panicked diver as well; he could definitely help other rescue divers learn in the future. We then all got out of the water and showered when Aria was attacked by a jellyfish on her leg and neck. The sting is definitely pretty sick. We are going to go over books and watch videos tonight. But first, we played an intense game of hide and seek, which was so much fun, and Maeve ended up winning. It was a pretty jam-packed day, but we are excited for more to come.
