Today, we learned about the watch system. The watch system is an organized way to make sure everybody has a chance to help steer and protect the boat. We were divided into three separate groups. Each group is assigned certain hours to be the lookouts and helmsman. After we learned about the watch system, we learned about emergency procedures. Each watch group helps out during the emergency procedures. After a quick lunch, we learned how to tie knots and the importance of them. Some of these knots include the bowline and the reef knot (square knot). We were taught how to pull up the main staysail and the forward staysail. We all really enjoyed learning today.
