Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today was the first of many days of us being on the water. We all woke up to have breakfast around 7 am and were introduced to different parts of the boat and basic sailing guidelines. Before this, we all had to attend a briefing by the director. At approximately 11 am, we departed for our next destination, where we would be snorkeling later on. Throughout the journey we relied mainly on our engine, though later on, we did use the jib, sailing on a close haul. We also learned to operate the jib during this time. Once we arrived at our next location, we had to complete a swimming test- 6 laps of the boat and afterward 10 minutes of treading water. Everyone passed, though it was quite taxing for some. After a lunch of sandwiches and salad to we took a RIB over to another yacht, where we collected the gear we needed for snorkeling. We saw many animals whilst snorkeling, including a queen triggerfish, Sargeant major, and parrotfish. We then returned the gear and were brought back to our own boat, where we took a shower in the sea- applying soap, then rinsing off in the sea and then freshwater. Afterward, we hung out for a while before setting out to the place where we would be staying for the night. Dinner was great- we had Sloppy Joe’s and mashed potatoes, and were joined by Haynes. Afterward, we had a moment to share a personal story and our favorite part of the day. Today was great, and I am sure that everyone is looking forward to the coming days!
