Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
After an early morning breakfast of scrambled eggs and lemon poppyseed muffins, our rescue training began. We did two different exercises. First was to get an unresponsive diver to the surface. Then it was how to get a diver who is unresponsive at the surface to the boat, all while giving rescue breaths. With a little practice, eventually all teams completed the activity, and we all came back on board. Our chefs made about thirty grilled cheese sandwiches that were all gone within minutes. There was a thunderstorm we had to wait out before getting back in the water. We all had bonding time around the living room table. As soon as we could, we got back in the water for our last rescue exercise of the day. I had a huge feeling of accomplishment when Kelli told me I was done and that I could get out of the water. We showered, and the most beautiful thing happened! The Deliverance boat came by, and we all got ice cream and soda! What I call a perfect reward after a long day of working and learning. I feel like we all are our little weird family on the boat. We have three parents and twelve brothers and sisters; it’s amazing. For our Thanksgiving dinner, we went around the table saying what we were most thankful for. This was my first Thanksgiving dinner, even if it was in the middle of summer. We have lectures tonight to learn about what we will practice tomorrow. I would call this one of the best days so far. All around smiles today.
