Today was an extremely important day for the crew of La Bella Vita. Since it was a rotation day, we did several different activities consecutively. In the first two hours of today’s activities, we studied knots with Shona, our very own sailing instructor, as well as studying charts and navigation with David, the skipper of Squeakybrat. With Shona, we studied several knots, including figure 8, bowline, clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches, and several others. The second two hours we went to a boat to go Pico sailing and skiing, then we had grilled cheese for lunch. During the third two hours, however, we did our first open water dive, diving down to 30 feet. During the dive, there were several different types of fish, but we mostly saw coral and sea plants. Most of the coral was fire coral, which was littered everywhere, but fortunately, as far as I know, no one touched it. The fourth and final two hours were perhaps the most important. During those hours, we took our final diving exams. I have heard we are diving again tomorrow, which I am looking forward to, but I can’t wait to get scuba certified and dive the wreck of the Rhone at the end of the trip, but I don’t want to skip over the fun of getting there especially since it doesn’t feel like we are already halfway through the trip!
