British Virgin Islands - 2022, Session 2

Ready for a Breezy Summer

Location: West End, Tortola

Allie, Emma, and Dan are super excited to welcome 12 new shipmates to our floating home for the next three weeks! We have been busy cleaning the vessel, preparing food and linens, checking the boat’s mechanics, preparing sailing and diving teaching materials along with everything else that goes into making ‘High on a Breeze’ ready for our BVI excursions. We have everything in place except the most important thing…our shipmates!

We’re looking forward to meeting them all very soon. In the meantime, here’s a little introduction to each of the staff members:

Allie, Skipper - Growing up, Allie spent most of her time in the chilly waters of Cape Cod, spending summers working as a lifeguard and watersports instructor at Cape Cod Sea Camps. In the spring of 2020, she went on a Seamester voyage from South Africa to Antigua, where she had the time of her life. Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Cognitive Science last spring, Allie spent the summer working as a mate at AQ. She loved being able to help others have as great of an experience at Action Quest as she did at Seamester. Allie got her Master of Yachts license this winter and is so excited to be back at AQ this summer, and even more excited for dishy pit dance parties this summer. When she isn’t on the water (and sometimes when she is), she can be found dancing poorly, faking accents, and finding fun in unsuspecting places.

Emma, Skipper - grew up 3 hours from the nearest ocean in Maryland, but to her, it was always worth the drive! She fell in love with scuba diving while earning her degree in Marine Affairs and Sustainable Business at the University of Miami. While in college, Emma was lucky enough to sail from South Africa to the Caribbean on both S/Y Argo and S/Y Vela. Emma now uses her degree to teach high school science. She can’t wait to take a break from the traditional classroom and teach sailing on the water again this summer. If you don’t find her on a boat, you’ll probably see her being towed behind it on a wakeboard!

Dan, Dive Instructor - Dan is from the UK and graduated from the University of Leicester with a history degree in 2016. He started diving with a marine conservation program which is where his passion for marine ecology began. Dan has been a PADI and SDI dive instructor around SE Asia for the past five years, including in Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia…until COVID prompted his relocation to Saba in the Dutch Caribbean. He speaks Mandarin from teaching English in China and Taiwan and has experience as a technical dive guide and dive resort manager. While he enjoys planning and executing decompression dives, this doesn’t compare to his love for “muck diving.” Dan is happiest scouring the seafloor for tiny critters (especially nudibranchs) and loves underwater photography. Dan can usually be found up a tree or in a bush looking for wildlife to photograph when not underwater. Alternatively, follow the sound of out-of-tune singing. Dan is excited to be joining ActionQuest for the first time this summer and is looking forward to sharing his passion, experiences, and terrible jokes with everyone on the boat.
