The Big Race

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Tenley
At 8:30am we began the race. The weather was perfect for race day. Sunny, a nice breeze, and not too choppy. Wicked Good sailed across the finish line in fifth place. Afterwards we continued our sail to West End while vigorously cleaning and tidying the ship. Tonight we all gathered on the dock at port and enjoyed our final BBQ and night on ActionQuest.

Wicked Hike

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Unknown
This morning we woke up early because we got to go on the Salt Island dive site. The dive was near a shipwreck. We saw a big sea turtle and a lobster and many many fish. After the dive the other ActionQuest boats came on our boat for diving. For lunch we ate chicken salad sandwiches, again. Just after lunch we did a hike on Salt Island. On the hike we saw some lake where the British Queen gets her table salt. At the end of the hike we left the island to go to Norman Island. Jack will go over the sail test we did this morning and see if we passed or not. Now Jack, Sam, and Bobby are at the staff meeting and we are making dinner.

Wicked Race

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Samuel C.
Today our boat woke up knowing that we had to prepare for the race. First we ate oatmeal to get ready. As the skipper I was taken to Vivo Libre for a short briefing on the race to West End. The race was a straight shot, having our sails trimmed on a beam reach (halfway out). Our boat pulled up the mainsail to get ready for the race. As soon as all the boats were lined up we heard the starting line for the countdown… as it reached one everybody raced to pull up our jib. When the jibs were up all the boats dashed forward. Mary Jewell gained an unobtainable lead so the race was now for second. Our boat dashed behind Mary Jewell, trying to hold our spot. Halfway through the race another boat, Knot Guilty, shot up from behind us and started to gain on us. Enraged by being in third our boat made a bold move to head upwind and switch to a broad reach to get the lead. As our boats approached the end we were neck and neck. And by true justice we took the lead and prevailed over Knot Guilty. After we enjoyed a nice lunch in West End and had a very choppy motor to Peter Island to spend the night there. This boat has Wicked Good sailors!

Sailing Sailing and More Sailing

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Unknown
The day started with pancakes made by our chefs Erin and Enrique. It was sunny as soon as we woke up so everyone was in a great mood. After breakfast we decided to show the boat some love and clean it for what felt like hours. Shortly after we were sailing and being tested on our sailing skills. This test included tying many knots and maneuvering the boat by ourselves in situations like man overboard. Thankfully we all passed the practical section. In the next couple days we will have the written portion of the test so everyone has been studying together. It’s quite the bonding experience. Long story short, today was hard but successful. Can’t wait til tomorrow!
