Winning the Race!

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Jimmy A.
Today we woke up at 6am and started cleaning and packing for our soon to come departure. It was fun though because we played music and sang to it while we cleaned. Then at 8:30 we went to Pelican Island where the starting line for the race was. This wasn’t any old race though. This was the Pringles Cup! It was the final and most important race of the whole session. We won the last race so Tanis Marie had a reputation to look up to. When the race started we were in the unfavorable position, being leeward from everyone else. Our race was pretty simple though. We had to go from Pelican Island to Road Town, tack around a buoy, and go to Great Harbor. It was a very fun race. We were in the middle at the beginning but we then began to pull away (because we’re awesome), and after a fantastic tack we were in the lead. By the end of the race we were ahead by at least ten boat lengths. It was awesome! Then we returned back to the place we started, West End. There we cleaned a little bit more, passed inspection, then we got to have fun in West End where we will go for the final BBQ. Today was the best way possible to close an awesome session at ActionQuest.

The End Is Near

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Bernardo C.
The end is near, and I don’t want to go!! Today was Sage and Ellen’s birthday. We started with yummy cereal for breakfast. Then we sailed to Salt Island, where we were going to take the sailing exam. Being honest, I was a little scared of doing that but after the exam, I think everyone did great. The second activity was scuba diving. We went to this cool shipwreck and it was a lot of fun. The last activity was a hike. It was in a beautiful island called Salt Island. The hike was amazing. At night we did this thing where we had to write what is good about the shipmates and staff. Even though I miss my family, we have become a family and I don’t want to leave.

Road Town

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Daniel Y.
Today we woke up at 7:15. For breakfast we had some amazing pancakes made by Armando and Sage. Our boat activity today was wakeboarding, it was my first time wakeboarding on Big Blue! Then we sailed to Road Town, which is the capital of Tortola. In Road Town we had lunch and we also walked around and bought stuff. On our way back from Road Town we did a small race between us, Laurasia, and Spindrift. Sadly, Laurasia won the race, but it was really fun. Then we took showers and ate an amazing meal for dinner.

Race Day!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Ailish W.
This trip has gone by so fast, I can’t believe there’s only four days left! Today we started off with a great morning, waking up to some yummy oatmeal. Then we lifted our anchors and sailed to West End for a great big lunch, most of us had lunch. Also some of us bought a lot of candy. Healthy, I know. After a nice lunch and browsing around some shops, we hopped back on board and got ready for the sailing race. I got to drive the entire time. After a long couple hours of my shipmates and I working together, we won the race! We ended up at Great Harbor, Peter Island to drop our anchor and victory jump into the water. It’s around 6pm right now, so we’re about to enjoy a big Mexican feast made by Emma and Max! After dinner all of the boats are coming together for another Lifeworks. It should be great. Overall today was amazing, and everyone is so happy we won!

Another Amazing Day At AQ

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Armando M.
Today we woke up to an amazing breakfast of pancakes, all after an amazing night of sleep. Then with full stomachs we headed out to start part one of the practical part of our sailing examination. We did the knots and we all did very well. Then we motored out to a small island where we went to walk a quarter mile to a place called the bubbly pool. Although it was a little less bubbly than expected, there were some really cool rocks to climb. It was tons of fun. Then after a short drizzle, we left to go to the beach where we got to hang out with some friends. Then we came back to have a good dinner of franks and beans. It was really good. After that we had a squeeze question about zombie apocalypse, and got some interesting answers. We got to have a sail chat and review for the written part of the final two days. Overall, today was a lot of fun. ActionQuest is awesome!
