Staff Update Day 17
Location: West End, Tortola
It has been a fantastic session here on Sambamba, and we cant believe it has already come to an end. We have danced the night away under the stars on the beach, explored national parks and explored the underwater world! The Carina and Barracuda students earned their Advanced Open Water certifications and the Vega students all become certified Open Water Divers! Everyone loved the sailing, and grew as sailors (even those who came just for the diving!) Each crew member is so unique and different, but they have all become the best of friends. Thomas is so passionate about diving, and often asks about the fish and other creatures he encounters while diving. He really helped out the other Barracuda students as they worked towards their Fish ID certifications, and spotted a really cool spotted moray eel the other day while diving. Gracie always keeps the boat moving with her awesome music. She recently celebrated her 14th birthday on board, where we had cake and candles, and well as had an awesome dance party with lip-synching to Adele and random kitchen utensils as microphones. This is Roccos 2nd session at AQ this summer, so he is very useful to have while getting the boat underway as he already knows the routine. While diving, Rocco is very inquisitive, and can often be found hitching a free ride by grabbing onto the instructors scuba cylinder and being pulled through the water! Rudy is a very knowledgeable diver, and loves learning new diving skills and practices. He is a very worldly person, and often begins discussions on board pertaining to politics and global issues (and singing a song called reggae shark). Tara is a very talented swimmer and overall athlete, and she loves to challenge herself! She is such a great friend to everyone on board, and is very encouraging to all the crew members, she is a great support system. Sophia is such a kind girl, as well as a born adventurer. She enjoys the sailing and diving, as well as creating new friendships. Shes made a friendship bracelet for every person on board, including the staff! Kyler is easy to spot underwater with his bright blue hair. He entertains the boat almost nightly with stories from his travels and adventures, and is a pretty good dancer if I say so himself! Tess brings a softer side to the boat, with her quite humor and kind spirit. She is a natural while diving, and pays great attention to the sail and dive chats. She works so hard at everything, and is always willing to lend a hand at anything the staff needs. Chloe pitches in wherever possible, and loves to help out! She is very attentive to everything the staff says, and loves to answer questions. She is the biggest sweetheart ever, and knows how to balance hard work with play. Teddy loves all the activities here, including knee boarding and Pico sailing. His quite humor brings a smile to everyones faces, and makes sure nobody is ever forgotten in group activities or games. David is both an experienced sailor and diver, and helps out wherever possible when sailing the boat. He is a big help when cooking meals, and tells so many great stories about his diving and traveling. Each and every one of them is fantastic in their own ways, and it has been such a blast hanging out with them for the past 16 days. Families and friends, thank you for sharing your students with us. We had such a great time getting to know and working with each and every one of them, and we hope to see each and every one of them in the future! We hope they will always remember their SamBamFAM!

Day 16- The Last Day
Location: West End, Tortola
Today we started off the day with a big race. It started on Norman Island in a bay called the Bight. When the race started, we unfurled the job and got going at once. The race went from The Bight to Road Town and then Great Harbor on Peter Island. The winners were Sailing Curls, in first place, Bella Vita in second and then Sambamba in third. After the race, we cleaned Sambamba until it looked brand new. After cleaning, we will be on our way to West End for shore time and to stay the night. After shore time we will have a BBQ and dock talk with Mike. After that, we will go to bed and tomorrow we will leave.

Day 15- Port Day
Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today was a great day. We got to sleep in so we woke up at 8 oclock today! Then we watched the beginning of the original Star Wars. After that, we had pancakes for breakfast. We then pulled up our anchors and headed for Road Town, the capital of the BVI. At Road Town, we picked up a mooring ball and took a dinghy to the dock. When we got on the dock most of us ate lunch and called our parents right away. Next, we went and walked around and went to shops and finally the grocery store. Then we took another dinghy to the boat. After that, we set sail for Norman Island. Now we are getting ready for dinner and are having franks and beans. Tonight we will have our last Lifeworks Forum.

Day 14- Wreck Of The Rhone
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we started out our day by having a breakfast of oatmeal. After, we ate and then the advanced boys dove the wreck of the Rhone. They did a swim through on the bow and also went to the stern, while the girls took a sailing exam. Once we finished our exam, we went back to Sambamba and geared up for a dive. When we were all ready, we descended upon the wreck to find many interesting creatures, like a sea turtle! After the dive, we had a yummy lunch of chicken salad and PB and J. We later went on a hike on Salt Island. There were beautiful views of rocky cliffs and the blue ocean. We were able to see the graves of the passengers on the Rhone too. Back at the boat, we swam and took salt water showers. We motor sailed back to Peter Island, on the way we had Oreos and Chips Ahoy. For dinner, we had Mexican night. After that, we had a Lifeworks Forum. We are now getting our hammocks set up and getting ready to go to bed. I heard there may even be a meteor shower tonight!

Day 13- Race Day!
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning we woke up with a nice view and a yummy breakfast of cereal. Next, we did our sailing practical on our way to West End. In West End, we supplied Sambamba with fresh food and water to prepare for the last couple of days. After lunch in West End, we had an amazing 3 hour race to Peter Island. Everybody worked well together and we had an excellent time racing, it was a lot of fun. We had a delicious meal of breakfast for dinner and then squeezed, the question was If you could go anywhere, where would you go? We are about to go for a night dive tonight.
