Staff Update Day 16

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Linda
Our amazing adventure is coming to an end and our crew is becoming more tight knit than ever. They have all grown so much and showed that they possess an incredible amount of impressive skills. Who would have known that Noelle can steer a boat like that of an experienced sailor, or that Adrian can perform any underwater scuba skill imaginable close to perfection. Throughout our journey we have lost buckets, brushes, more buckets, pots, and utensils, and we have struggled with tedious duties like dirty dishes and pooping seagulls. The material things lost to Davey Jones are of little importance compared to the experiences gained. Unexpected leaders popped up over and over during our trip, and they would sweep in and save the day whenever guidance was needed. Sam led silently by example and Jonah with encouragement and hard work. Ellie and Michael brought wisdom and thoughtfulness to the group when needed. I think that everyone can agree that Sabrina could make anyone’s day better with one of her crazy life experience stories. It was a pleasure for me to teach scuba to the Tanisians. It was an amazing experience seeing how well Lindsey adapted to the underwater world and how much she loved it. Whilst diving the RMS Rhone and bumping into a bunch of shipmates rubbing the lucky porthole of the wreck, I took a moment to look around at their faces. Excitement and complete happiness is what I found. Session three has been an amazing trip with some intense sailing and diving. But more importantly, it has been a journey done by an impressive group of individuals that managed to accomplish so many things in just 17 days!

Day 16- Last Day On The Water

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Jonah R.
It was our last day on the water as we journeyed through the final race day. The last pull of the lines, the last pull of the halyards. The race started slowly caused by issues with the mainsail. Scrambling, Tanis Marie tacked into 3rd place. The race took us on a triangular course, starting at the Bight and ending at Peter Island. Looking back on these final moments, this was the last time us shipmates would see each other. Many memories will remain forever and this quest for action will have a big place in all our hearts. Writing the final blog, being the final skipper, signifies the closing of an incredible 17 day journey that had its ups and downs, but always stayed on a positive note. I look forward to seeing you guys next year and wish you all the best.

Day 15- Shipwreck

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Lindsey L.
Even though we went diving at the shipwreck yesterday, it was a really fun experience. The propeller on the boat was like the size of a car! It was so big! We swam like inside the boat! I really had a great time. I’m having a great time at this camp. I’m so happy I passed my scuba diving test and sailing test! It makes me feel like I went to this camp to accomplish something and I accomplished it! It makes me feel so good about myself! Well only two more days of ActionQuest 🙁 It’s gone by so quick! But I’m also very excited to come home! But I’m also having a great time here. Editor’s note: today the shipmates of Tanis went for their last ski/wakeboard/kneeboard, had shore time in Road Town, and then sailed to Norman Island.

Day 14- An Eventful Day!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Ellie S.
Today we woke up bright and early and instantly got moving towards Salt Island, where we took a gorgeous hike, and dove a famous shipwreck! It was so cool! We saw a reef shark and a turtle, as well as a lot of other really cool fish. After we hiked and dove we headed off for a race. Our ship was very together and I am proud of my shipmates and crew! We came in second! I’m sad to say ActionQuest is slowly coming to a close. I’ve learned so much here and I am now family with everyone in the boat (and fleet!). I also can’t wait to go home and tell my parents all about how much fun I had here!

Day 13- Pringles Cup

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Noelle A.
Today we started off in Sandy Spit, where we had the first race in the Pringles Cup. The finish line was in West End, where AQ first started on the first day. In first place was the Prosecutor, in second was Changes, and in third was Tanis Marie. Which was pretty good. At West End we ate lunch and refilled the water. After lunch we prepared for the final race. Tanis started in second place, then went down to fourth, but then we held out in first place for a little while but ended in third place again. But we placed right in front of the director. So then we ate Mexican night.
