BVI: Session 1 - Celestial Storm

Staff Update Day 21

Location: West End, Tortola

The last three days have been the perfect combination of the three weeks we have spent sailing, diving and growing together as the crew of Celestial Storm. Racing yesterday against the other six boats from sail side, everyone’s personality shown through. Natalia led the way on sail trim while Diego and Emma showed their ability on the helm to focus on keeping us pointed close to the wind while still dancing along to Walking in Memphis and other classics being played in the cockpit speakers. Between the tracks the rest of the shipmates lined the rail on the high side of the boat but Chase, always wanting to stretch things out to the end, stayed put on the main sheet just in case a sudden ease became necessary. Austin kept track of our position relative to the other boats and Ben and Jake kept us laughing as usual this time with their boat imitations and refusal to speak in a normal voice. Despite opting to keep a reef in our sail we still managed to come in third! Just as yesterday left us amazed at how much everyone has learned about sailing in the past 17 days, today was a marker of how far we’ve coming in diving. This morning we did our first fun dive as newly certified Open Water and Advanced Divers as we dove the wreck of the RMS Rhone. We had an early start but Claire made sure breakfast got underway for our trip to the wreck. As we all lined up to jump in the water one by one, Eli was quick to answer any questions from less advanced divers. Everyone’s excitement could be felt in post-dive chatter. After such a long day we were all exhausted and the lazy passage back to our anchorage for the night led to a relaxed atmosphere. Aubrey, always quick to help wherever she can and ready to tell stories and talk kept me company at the helm. Thanks everybody for such a great trip!

Day 20- Last Day

Location: West End, Tortola

Wow! Today was the last full day onboard Celestial Storm with my shipmates that have practically become my second family. This whole trip flew by. This morning we woke up at 530. To get the day started we began with cleaning every surface. Around 7:30 we ate breakfast, which included Linda’s masterpiece eggs and cereal. Once breakfast was over, our second race was underway. The beginning of the race was flawless- we were in first! Unfortunately Zourite and Sambamba gained speed and passed us. Zourite got first, Sambamba got second and Celestial Storm came third. After the race we motor sailed back to West End. Other than that it was all cleaning. We cleaned all the way to West End. No breaks, just cleaned. But it’s okay, because of all our hard work cleaning we get more shore time. Tonight is the final BBQ, and I have high hopes that it will be the best one ever! I’m sad to be leaving this beautiful place, but I made lots of memories and new friends. ActionQuest has been a blast and I hope that everyone had just the same amount of fun as I did. Can’t wait to come back for more adventures! I’ll miss you Celestial Storm. See you next year!

Day 17- Big Race Day!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island

This morning we woke up with a beautiful view of the sea and sun. For breakfast we had a delicious bowl of cereal, and we started the day with sailing to West End. It was weird to see West End because that’s where our AQ adventure started. At West End we got to explore the shops and had a yummy lunch. After that we had a race day. We raced against all of the other monohulls. It was really fun to race with our crew, and we had a great time sailing and listening to music. We finished the race in third place! Afterwards we had a Mexican dinner, then a Lifeworks meeting. Overall today was a fun day!
