Staff Update Day 21

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Gwen, Kelly, Andy
We cant believe that 20 days have come and gone and that it is time for our crew to return to their homes. The staff has agreed that we have never had a group of students who have meshed together so well, so fast. This group was one for the books! Everyone got along, everyone shared laughs, everyone earned certifications we could not be happier with the crew of Sailing Curls. We will miss Mo’s pancakes, Andrews DJing skill, Amos jokes, Juans dancing, Chases ability to fall asleep anywhere at any time… and everyones laughter. All of us arrived from different with different experiences and expectations and I think we were all blown away. We had 8 boys and 4 girls on board and in the beginning the girls were quite timid. But it only took a day before Bella flexed her biceps and showed all the boys how to raise a sail. Theresa told us all about her life in Canada. Leah and Natalie came on board as friends and really became the backbone of the entire boat to make it a family. Alex and Dave were the class clowns, trying to fish with only their laundry bags and a flashlight. Overall the boat was full of laughs! Nathaniel is the last skipper of the day and his question was “What was your favorite thing about AQ?” Not one of the students said the sailing or diving ” it was unanimous, it was the family that we grew into that made this summer unforgettable. Weve been laughing, learning, sailing and diving for 20 days. None of us will forget this summer. Thank you Sailing Curls for an amazing session, we would love to have every student back next year.

Day 20- Race Day

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Wolfie Y.
We started off the morning very quickly. We had a race that went Norman Island to Peter Island. When we first started the sail we were in last, and by the end of the sail we had gained a few positions. After the race, cleaning day started. We had to clean the boat from top to bottom. Once everything was spotless we headed back to the dock where it all started and had a pizza party. Now we are about to go to the BBQ, I hope it’s fun!

Day 19- Fun Day At Road Town

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Natalie S.
Today we were able to sleep in later than usual and woke up around 7am. After all getting a good night’s sleep, everyone felt rejuvenated and ready to start the day. We began making pancakes and had option to either waterski, wakeboard, kneeboard, or have chill out/swim time on the boat. At 9 we began to all get back on the boat to get ready to leave for Road Town, the capital of the BVI. After sailing for about an hour we finally reached Road Town and rode in a dinghy to shore. After arriving the girls decided to explore the town a little before sitting down for lunch. The food was delicious and after lunch we grabbed ice cream before leaving and heading to the Bight. After another boat ride we finally arrived at the Bight, where we are staying for the night. After a few anchoring troubles, we finally were able to settle down and the staff left for a meeting while we prepared dinner. We finished out the night with a fun activity! Today was an amazing day and I can’t believe the trip is almost over, but we are definitely making the most of it!

Day 18- Another Incredible Day At AQ

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Juan P.
Today was a very energetic and fun day because we started the day with cereal at a very good diving spot called the Rhone. While we were down there we saw a lot of fish, including a jack and an enormous barracuda. After diving the Vegas took their written sailing test and the advanced sailors took their VHF radio test. For lunch we had some very good ramen noodles that David did for us. After lunch we went for a hike on Salt Island where we had an incredible view of all our surroundings. A boat from Seamester called Ocean Star invite us over to do some boom swing jumps where some of us did backflips. Finally it was time for dinner, we had some eggs with biscuits and sausages with our friend Austin from Manic. It is just another incredible day at AQ!

Day 17- Gotta Go Fast!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Amos O.
We woke up this morning thinking it was going to be like any other day, only to find out we were going to be racing two times with both sail sides of ActionQuest! In the first race we went strong and came second behind La Bella Vita and barely beating Surprise. The first race ended in West End, where we started the whole camp experience. We had some town time in West End, so we browsed the shops and had a great lunch at Pusser’s. After lunch we piled back into the sailboat for a second race. This one we didn’t do quite as well in, but we had a great time. We ended the night with some delicious Mexican food hoping to make he most of the final couple of days.
