Staff Update Day 17

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Carolyn, Alex, and Shona
Ladies and gentlemen, ActionQuest is officially over for the summer in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. Third session has come to a close after 17 days out on the water. We had 11 fantastic students during our time and we couldnt be happier with our team of Carinas and Vegas completing their Advanced Sailing certifications and Open Water/Advance Open Water courses. We wont forget the memories that we had together and we will hopefully see everyone someday soon, whether it be next year or in the future. Thank you for giving us an excellent trip!

Day 16- Last Full Day

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Finn J.
Last night we surprised Jake by making him a tomato cake for his birthday. We hid in the cockpit, but he didnt end up coming until much later that night. This morning we woke up for race day. We trailed behind Sailing Curls the whole race and came in second. Since todays lunch was the last meal on the boat of the trip, we had to get rid of most of the food on board. We ate some, gave some to Ocean Star and threw the rest to the ocean. We sailed to West End and started the big boat clean of the entire boat, which took three hours. We went on the island for out last shore time and bought some stuff. We had the final BBQ at Pussers with the whole flotilla; we then went to sleep for the last time on the boat.

Day 15- Bella’s Last Swim

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Caitlin K.
We got a nice sleep in this morning until 7:30, an hour and a half later than usual! We woke up and before we ate our pancakes, we jumped in for a swim to clean Bella Vitas hull and Blaze, one of our dinghies. We came up to eat our pancakes with chocolate frosting before going in again to finish cleaning the hull. We came out, dried off, and motored across the Drake for some shore time at Road Town. We got some ice cream and lunch before heading back to Bella for a sail to the Bight on Norman Island. Our staff is at a staff meeting right now, so we are making dinner and showering to prep for our last Lifeworks and night on the water. We are all wondering how our trip passed by so fast, but we are all so excited for the final race tomorrow!

Day 14

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Pharaoh T.
Today we went to a dive site called the Rhone, where there was a sunken ship. When we got down to the ship, we did a swim through and saw a stingray and sea turtle. After the dive, we took our sailing test, which everybody passed, took a swim break and headed back to Peter Island. Before we came to Peter Island, we went on a hike, which had a great view, and we took lots of pictures. Tomorrow we will be going to Road Town.

Day 13- First Race Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: William G.
Today was our first race day. In the morning, we sailed over to West End and refilled on water. Afterwards we got some shore time where we ate lunch and went snack shopping. Next, we raced from West End to Peter Island. It was a close race and in the end, we came in third place. Unmentioned in our previous blogs, because of timing, was a surprise ice cream trip. Here’s the story: two nights ago, at about 8 at night, we drove over to a boat called Sambamba. Mike, the director of AQ, was giving a chat on it. We approached stealthily and hid in his dinghy Big Blue. After about 20 minutes, he came out and found our entire boat in his dinghy. We all held up our money and shouted in unison, “we’re ready for ice cream!” After getting over his surprise, Mike was forced to drive us to Marina Cay in Big Blue to get ice cream. After gorging ourselves, we returned to our boat. This was definitely one of our trip highlights.
