Race and Clean Up Day

Location: Candler D.
Author: West End, Tortola
Today began pretty slowly; everyone was super tired from writing notes the night before. After we ate breakfast, we started to get ready for the main event of the day: the final race. After the race, we began to clean our cabins and the boat while we were on the way to the dock where we began our trip. We had to use a lot of teamwork while cleaning, which is one of SamBams best qualities.

Fourth of July

Location: Hudson F.
Author: The Bight, Norman Island
After a movie night, we woke up and dressed up for one of our last, but most exciting days yet, the fourth of July! Soon after, we ate a breakfast of pancakes as we headed towards Road Town, the capital of the BVI. Once on land we sat down at a local restaurant and it began to set in that we would soon be leaving our new found home and our legendary Sambam fam. Tonight will be our second to last night on the water before we will end what has been the adventure of a lifetime. Although our trip is coming to an end, the family, memories, and community we have been let into here will always be with us. Happy 4th of July from the entire Sambam fam!

The Sunken Ship

Location: Gabriel G.
Author: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today was very exciting. We started the day off with practicing our man overboards because we then had to test later in the day. After that, we got to take a 50-question test for our sailing certifications. Then the Sambam fam scuba dived and swam through an 19th century steam boat that sunk during a hurricane. The boat broke in half so we could only see the back part of the boat. We swam in a tunnel where the propeller used to be. After we finished scuba diving, the wreck we hiked the island where the steamboat hit and sunk. The hike was easy, unlike the one on day 15. During the hike, we passed a salt pond and we were walking on a layer of salt and found huge salt rocks. At the very end of dive hike, we visited the gravesite where the people who died from the steam boat crash. We then ended the day with breakfast for dinner.

Race Day

Location: Isaiah L.
Author: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today, we woke up a little late and enjoyed some scrambled eggs and cereal. The skipper AKA me went to a meeting to get briefed on what the race entailed. Then I returned and told everybody what the deal was. After that, we set sail in the race heading for West End on a single tack, scoring 3rd place overall. The wind was supreme and we were heeled over at almost 40 degrees. When we got to town, everybody split up to eat lunch and stock up on snacks. After that, we got ready for the second, bigger race, which involved multiple tacks. The water was super choppy and we dipped a rail. We ended up taking 3rd place again. For dinner, we had Mexican night again, which was burritos and a bean casserole, which was delicious. Candler and Kylie had to spend about an hour scrubbing the pots though. Overall, today was a good day.
