Day 16

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Lydia F.
As the trip comes to an end, we all soon realize our big cleaning day is also coming. Twelve students up at 5:30 to clean a 50 ft. boat wasn’t too pleasant but once we got some food in our bellies and the music going, we really got into a groove. Next came the race and shore time in West End, which is where we started. It’s kinda cool because 17 days ago we were all here completely new to everyone and the experience and now we’re back here with one day left with our shipmates and now close friends. Everything’s coming full circle now!

Day 15- Road Town

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Dylan E.
We started off the day relaxed with a light breakfast. Many people got a final chance to waterski on the trip. Linda waterskied as well, which was fun to see. We then sailed across the channel to Road Town, where Aaron and I were able to raise the sail just the two of us in under six minutes. After we had an extra long shore time in Road Town, the BVI capital. Everyone enjoyed some ice cream. Road Town was the most bustling place we’ve seen so far. We left and made our way to the Bight on Norman Island, accompanied by Ian and some stories. We arrived at the Bight and took nice long showers in the ocean to cool off. The day ended with Lifeworks and writing notes to everyone.

Day 14

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Jules D.
Today started with a quick breakfast, then we went over to the wreck of the Rhone. It was amazing to dive through the propeller of the ship and find the lucky porthole. After we finished our dive we headed back to the boat to get lunch of of the way. Everyone was excited to have Ramen! Then we went to hike up Salt Island to view the wreck from the top of the hill. It was an amazing view. When we got to the bottom all of the ActionQuest students paid respects to those who died on the ship. We ended the day with breakfast for dinner and a Lifeworks talk. We had an exciting day!

Day 13- Race Day!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Andrew L.
Today was fantastic! I loved listening to music while competitively sailing against our adversaries Sambamba and Squeakbrat. Even though we tied for last, it was an amazing experience that created memories which will last a lifetime. My favorite part of the day was when I was on the helm of the boat. I could see my entire boat working together and even though it was just a simple boat race for fun, people took it seriously. I was satisfied on how committed our small community of our boat could work together without complaint. Aaron and Linda helped us a lot though but it was still surprising how much we have learned in such a small period of time. Thanks Linda and Aaron!

Day 12

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Emily H.
We woke up this morning to the jarring chirp of my iPod’s alarm, which would have been greeted by the slam of my hand on the snooze button if not for the promise of another fun-packed ActionQuest day. After munching on cereal and toast for breakfast, we set sail for a beautiful morning cruise, stopping for lunch and a quick swim before heading to Sandy Spit for the night. We were all surprised by the tiny strip of sand in front of us, but once we were dinghied over to the beach we saw perhaps the most picturesque waves we’d seen all trip. After dinner under the sunset with shipmates from the other boats, we returned to Bella Vita for a shower. Now, sitting under the glow of a full moon, surrounded by the silhouettes of lush Caribbean islands, I am struck by the beauty of this moment and the magic of this trip.
