Day 16- Last Day On The Program

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Anya P.

I can’t believe it is the last day already. We woke up to Dancing in the Moonlight for one last time and had some delicious bacon and cheese omelets. I, as skipper, had to go to a meeting with Jake where we discussed the big race. The start line was at The Bight on Norman Island and we would finish at Peter Island. The race was super fun and as Zourite is a very speedy boat we were pretty excited. David and Tyler killed it on the helm and despite Sambamba (our biggest rival) being hot on our heels for much of the way we managed to pull ahead to victory!!!! Yay!!! After a very thorough clean of the boat we had some time to hang out in West End and get some souvenirs. Tonight we have a whole program BBQ, which we are all really looking forward to, especially Henry. Cannot wait to see everyone.

Day 13- Race Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: James W.
Today was quite the action packed day. Most of us woke up recovered from last night’s beach party but some of us needed a few more zzz’s. We were anchors up by 7:30 and got right into doing sailing circles. After David and I did ours the Vega sailors did theirs, finishing one of the last steps of their practical exam. While Tyler studied for his final divemaster exam that he’ll be taking later tonight. Good luck Tyler! After sailing circles Madi skippered us through one of the best man overboard drills Jake and Annie had ever seen. Madi was startled over Jake’s excitement and thought she did something wrong. After the MOB drill we headed into West End which is where we started on day one. All the shipmates went on shore to stock up on snacks and grab some lunch at Pusser’s. Meanwhile Jake and Annie filled our water tanks onboard. Jake and I headed to our skipper’s meeting for the first race aboard Zourite. After the brief from Smudge we left the dock and made our way out of the channel where our race took place. Unluckily we pulled the last place starting spot from the hat. However, David and I sailed us to a third place finish. The race was awesome and I’m sure I’ll be sore in the morning from fighting the wind at the helm. I’m off to enjoy Mexican night cooked by Henry and David and then study for my flotilla skipper exam.

Today we woke up to another beautiful BVI sunrise and started our rotation day. Our first rotation was diving and we are now officially certified!! After we watched a really cool video and made some monkey’s fists and proceeded to lunch for some bowls of mac and cheese. Then we sailed at approximately 5.3 knots for a few hours to a cute little island where we will have dinner.

Day 11- A Day In Paradise

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Author: Baylor B.
Today was a lot of fun. We started out with eggs and hot sauce. After that we all went scuba diving. I’m starting to get the hang of it even though my mask is constantly fogging up. After some scuba fun we went to waterskiing/Pico sailing. Following a delicious bowl of soup for lunch we learned how to make some sweet bracelets. The the chosen few, including myself, went scuba diving again, this time instead of learning skills Quinlin and I did flips and blew water rings. It was awesome. Tonight we had Thanksgiving dinner. Tyler ate three whole plates of stuffing. Today as skipper my question was “what’s your dream car?” Time’s up time to go look at some stars.

Day 10- Cat And Dog Island

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Author: Lily D.
This morning started off a good one. James was excited to see a 7 on his watch… 6:57! We had a yummy pancake breakfast before we sailed to Trellis Bay. The town was so cute! They had such a nice store there, filled with arts and crafts. On the island there were cats and dogs roaming all around. When we were in the pottery store, there were a bunch of cats sitting in the bowls. Then we went on our way to Muskmelon Bay. It was so much fun to get to drive Zourite. When we anchored at Muskmelon Bay we had chili and rice. It’s a beautiful night here! off to sail chat!
