BVI: Session 3 - Love of my Life

Final Staff Update

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Sam W
It has been a fantastic past 9 days on Love Of My Life to finish our wonderful voyage. We did some incredible dives on the north side of Tortola, visiting Guana Island, Brewers Bay, and the famous Playgrounds off of Jost Van Dyke. Over the past few days our Neptunes finished up their Wreck diving certification by setting reels inside the Beata wreck off cooper island and successfully navigating through the wreck. Our rescue divers struggled through their first scenario before absolutely nailing the final two, thoroughly impressing the entire staff. Erin, Jessica, and Madison are the masters of on boat care, using oxygen, bag valve masks, and demand inhalator valves to stabilize and resuscitate our patients. Quinlan would take point on most scenarios, assigning roles and responsibilities and managing the scene, and Tyler, Alex, Istvon, Madeleine, would always hit the water to rescue our panicked and unresponsive divers and bring them back to safety. Jared and Boyd were the utility knives of the team, acting as standby divers, helping with exits, and getting involved wherever they were needed. Overall our Rescue divers performed impressively through their very challenging course and are now officially certified after passing their exams and acing their final scenario this morning. While not actually part of the Rescue program, Gabe always offers his assistance during the scenarios and has been a key component to the functioning of our boat, helping out everywhere and always expanding his knowledge. Amy regularly leaves everyone in stitches with her awesome sense of humor and perpetually bright and positive out look, and has been an absolute joy to be around. Wilks is our boat photographer, taking some amazing photographs of our voyage and loves sailing our boat around these beautiful islands. Overall we have had an absolute blast with these 13 wonderful people, and while it’s been amazing to see all they’ve accomplished, I know we are all sad to be wrapping up our time together as we have become a tight knit family and have had the best time together. Each and everyone of them has left a positive impression on Jake, Blair, and myself, and we all agree we couldn’t have had a better group to end our Summer in the BVI.

Day 15 – Bittersweet

Location: The Bite, Norman Island
Author: Boyd R
Today was our last day at sea, and although all of us aren’t ready to come home its almost time. We kicked off today with our last scenario for our rescue training, Sam said we did a great job overall and said we were all Action Quests newest rescue divers! After that we sailed to Great Harbor Peter for a dive on the wall. It was very beautiful. Then we went to port in Road Town and it seemed like all of Action Quest was inside this one ice cream shop that was so good! When we left, dive-side had a sailing race and since I was skipper, I got to do a lot in regards to sailing! Even though we lost (2nd Place) it was still very fun. And when we entered the bay we tacked the whole way to the mooring ball which was very intense. I really enjoyed the look on other peoples faces when we came some close to their boats. This trip has literally been one of the best experiences of my life. I could not ask for better staff or shipmate. I will hold on to memories of this trip for a very long time.

After dinner, Jake was presented with his lovely cares and gifts everyone gave him. Overall, it was one of the best days at AQ, I will never forget it!

Day 13 – Exhilarating

Location: Great Harbor Peter, Peter Island

Today was an exhilarating day. We started off the day by sailing to West End, We had breakfast on the way and cleaned up before we arrived. We then ate a second breakfast at port and went shopping. We left the dock at 11:20 and started our long trek to Great Harbor Peter. Once we arrived we set up our dive hear and jumped into the water, we dove the site, Fearless, a wooden shipwreck. Although the navigation to and from the wreck was difficult the wreck itself was teeming with sea life and swim-throughs. The dive was 84 feet and lasted 31 minutes. We surfaced about 200 yards away from the boat. Once we dissembled our gear, four of us went waterskiing and wakeboarding while the rest of us stayed on the boat and showered early. For dinner we had Mexican food with Mike. After dinner we answered the squeeze question did a short lifeworks session with Mike, We cleaned the boat and prepared for sleep.
