The End of a Voyage

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Noah H.
Today was another exciting day aboard the vessel Caribbean Soul. First we had a race. On this race we had to go from Norman Island to Road Town to Peter Island, and then to West End. We placed fifth but it was still a very exciting race. After that we all had to do some boat appreciation. In this we basically scrubbed the boat from top to bottom, which is not as exciting as it sounds. One thing that was truly awesome was that we finished our B.A. with enough extra time to go to shore before the last BBQ. During our shore time everyone stuck together and talked about our wonderful time here and about plans for the next summer. After this we went to the BBQ, where we celebrated the end of the voyage.

Another Stormy Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Anna M.
Last night I was one of the lucky ones and made it below deck just as it started to rain. I woke up around 6am, but since I was skipper I had to wake everyone up. Not the easiest job. Then, once everyone was up and moving, we had breakfast and started sailing. We were all stuffed below deck because it started pouring. While we were down there we had an hour to study for our sailing exam. Once we anchored at Road Town we all took the exam. It wasn’t too bad. Once everyone was finished we were all able to go on land and it stopped raining. Avice, Julia, Jonah, and I all walked around land. When we finally sat down for lunch, our food took an hour to get, and once it did we had to go. I had a veggie burger and a plate of pasta. Anyways, we sailed over to Peter Island and I had my makeup dive. I am now a fully certified open water diver! I took my speedy quick shower and we all had a nice dinner. Today was great.

The Storm

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island

Wow today… well I woke up, ate some oatmeal, and started to relax. Though the relaxing lasted about five seconds. Then I found out I had to go to a skipper’s meeting. I found out it was the first race, exciting! It was the Pringles Cup- Magpie Bridge got very competitive. We got fourth. We docked at the same place where we first got assigned to our boats. I ate some amazing hash browns! Another skipper’s meeting was called to order, at 12:30pm. There was to be another race. We got off to a bad start. All of a sudden we had our first storm while sailing at ActionQuest. It was cool at first, but then we had to go down below.

Hike Day

Location: Sydney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Jonah B.
Today we woke up at Cane Garden Bay and hiked Mt. Sage, the highest point in the Virgin Islands. It was very steep. The hike was 8 miles, 4 up, 4 down. It wasn’t that fun to climb, but the view was amazing. We finally got to the top and got banana smoothies. On the way down we played mash. Then we found a stray dog and Anna and Avice wanted to bring it down the mountain to the boat. We finally got to the bottom of the mountain where we ate lunch. Then we finally got back to the boat and sailed to Sandy Cay. On the way we did laundry. We got to Sandy Cay where we got in the water and started the sand castle competition, where we mad a sand castle, emphasis on castle. Then we took a walk and looked at others that were amazing- a shark eating a person, a sphinx and the pyramids, a car, a life size dinghy, a toilet, and then there was our castle. We got back in the boat and I reversed into Sydney’s Peace and Love dock where we ate and had a lot of fun at the dance.
