Racing Alongside Dolphins

Today we woke up and realized that we had gotten new shipmates onboard. They were from a dive boat and we had been pranked, but they happily joined our crew. After the oatmeal for breakfast, the big and little skippers came together on “The Equipment Boat” to design a race. The first race of the day was a downwind sprint from Sandy Cay to West End. Portlandia confidently won that race while we came in fifth. After docking, we all spent some time on shore and stocked up on snacks and got some delicious ice cream. At twelve thirty the skippers had another meeting regarding the second race. The second race was an upwind race from West End to Peter Island. The wind was blowing really hard so we decided to put two reefs in the jib. We had some trouble along the way since our boat doesn’t point as high as the other boats, but we managed to hold a good position. In the first leg of the race, we started to see some gray spots on our starboard side. Then we realized that we were being joined by dolphins. Everybody got ultra excited. Then the dolphins surfaced and jumped right next to us, which was truly magical. The race lasted about 2 1/2 hours and Bella Vita took the trophy. We came again in fifth place. Then we anchored and made a boom swing and we all backflipped from it. Today was a great day even though we didn’t get great results on the races. We are all super hyped for tomorrow since we get to dive the wreck of the Rhone!
