Day 5 – Certifications And Coral
Posted: Wed, Aug 3, 2016
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We started off the day with a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon and muffin bits made by our staff member, Taylor. Next, the dolphins split up from the Neptunes and barracudas and had an underwater naturalist lecture while the others had a fish identification lecture. After a fun time learning, we were headed for our first dive of the day. The Neptunes and barracudas were tasked with finding 5 fish families while us dolphins had to find 5 vertebrates, 5 invertebrates and 2 plants. We saw some really cool fish I had never seen before! Both the marine life and the coral were beautiful. After that dive, we settled down for lunch. Soon after, our bellies were full and we were super prepared for our first wreck dive! We saw an airplane the had coral and algae covering it, and there were so many colorful fish around it. We even saw a stingray and 2 barracudas! I saw some fish that looked like a swimming rainbow. We were all so pooped from our day of learning and diving that a lot of people took a quick nap while the staff made dinner. My shipmates and I played a very fun game of “ninja. We had quite a surprise as the staff rushed out to the bow screaming “yolo” and jumping off the boat. It was super entertaining to watch them swim around like dolphins. Soon after they got out, dinner was ready. It was a nice big bowl of chili with rice. We ate and talked and watched the sunset, which was gorgeous. Now we are cleaning up and getting ready to hang out with each other. I’m super excited to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us!
