Staff Update Day 1

Posted: Thu, Jul 7, 2016

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Matt

Matt, Pippa and Alisa have been busy preparing Rangitoto Too for its second group of shipmates this summer. Between fooding the boat, filling it with program materials and general preparedness it’s hard to believe second session is already here. That being said they couldn’t be more excited to get started sailing, diving and sharing this experience in this amazing place with their new boat family!

Here is an introduction to the crew of Rangitoto Too:

Matt: Skipper/Dive Instructor/Medic

Matt is a returning skipper, dive instructor, and member of the medical team. He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean with Seamester on S/Y Argo in 2012, and sailed across the Indian Ocean on Argo in 2014. During the year, he studies at Florida Gulf Coast University and is majoring in marine biology. In his off time he likes to produce music, go on adventures with his dog, and do woodworking.

Alisa: Dive Instructor/Mate

Alisa was raised in North Florida and has never been far from the water. She was a competitive swimmer for nine years and has been diving since she was sixteen. Her passion for scuba and the undersea world has only increased over the years. Alisa studied ecotourism in college and became a PADI scuba instructor in 2014. When she’s not in the water, her hobbies include being around food as much as possible and having a near unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter. She enjoys engaging with people and teaching and encouraging people to love the water and its inhabitants as much as she does! This is her second year working with the ActionQuest family and she is more than excited to continue this adventure!

Pippa: Dive Instructor/Mate

Pip is a marine biology and oceanography BSc graduate of Newcastle University, UK, who discovered ActionQuest as a shipmate back in 2010aboard the Dolphin voyage. She is an avid scuba diver who was first certified at age 10 and is now a Master Scuba Diver Trainer with teaching experience in the BVI, Madagascar, Indonesia and Mauritius. Pip also has a keen interest in marine conservation. She has been involved in Bio Rock coral reef restoration projects in the Gili Islands and the implementation of aquaculture, farming seaweed and sea cucumbers across the poverty-stricken villages in the Bay of Ranboe, Madagascar. After spending the summer at ActionQuest, she hopes to combine her love for the ocean and hobbies of photography and film by studying a Masters in Wildlife Film Production back in the UK.

Matt and Pippa are both in the photo above, and Alisa is at the airport awaiting the arrival of the students.
