Day 4- First Dives
Posted: Sun, Aug 3, 2014
Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
At around 6 a.m. the boat started getting frantic as we got ready to set sail for Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda. From the night before, we all knew that today would be a special day. The people in Vega would be doing their first dive ever, while the Barracuda’s would be doing a refresh dive. The Questers during the time of the dives would be hiking over to the windward side of the island to do a beach cleanup. The voyage to Savanna Bay took about an hour and a half. During the voyage we took turns taking the helm. Once we got to Savannah Bay, we took a small break and than the Barracudas took a boat to shore to set up their dive equipment and than set out on a dinghy towards the dive site. Once the dive was underway they saw jellyfish, an octopus and many fish. Meanwhile, the Vega’s and the Questers were practicing water sports including windsurfing, Pico sailing, wakeboarding, waterskiing and kneeboarding. When the Barracuda’s came back from their dive, we had a group lunch at the boat. After lunch, the Barracudas participated in water sports while the Vegas were practicing setting up dive equipment. Once they were comfortable they got in the water and did diving drills while the Questers were on their hike. Once the rotation was over we headed back to the boat and took a shower in the ocean. Dinner today was chili and rice which was amazing and I find it incredible that each day the chefs manage to cook the food incredibly well. I can’t wait for future dives and the future rotation days.
