Day 18- The Rhone
Posted: Sat, Jul 26, 2014
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today wake-ups had been a late one, until 8am (an unusual occurrence). We had a cereal breakfast and a sail chat followed by our final dive of the trip and by far being the most interesting one. As we descended yellowtail snappers were the first to greet us as we slowly swam to the attraction. The wreck of the Rhone was our destination. The boat of the wreck had had been one of the first iron-hulled ships, measuring over 300 feet. It met its demise during a hurricane in 1867. More than 150 people died, with 23 survivors. About a century and a half later we enter through her massive and now collapsed propeller. It was definitely the most interesting and enjoyable dive. Afterwards we sailed back to Great Harbor and ate a unique dinner of pancake/crepe/tortillas with sausage, cheese and a variety of condiments.
