Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda

Today, we woke up nice and early as we had a fairly substantial sail ahead of us. Hammocks were again a favorite of many, and a few other people slept on beanbags on the trampoline at the bow. I have been told that they are immensely comfortable.

A few people had a makeup checkout dive, and while on it, a stingray was spotted feeding in the sand. According to a few people, it was a Caribbean ray, though as of now, it is still hotly debated.

For our quick breakfast, we had bagels and yogurt. After cleaning up from breakfast, we set out on our three-hour sail to Blue Chromis Reef. On the way, we read and fill out our PADI boat diver booklets. Once there, we reviewed our answers with Ri and set up our dive gear.

After walking to the stern of the boat, we did our buddy check and took one long stride into the water, which was very clear and warm, about 82 F. On the dive, we saw a multitude of different fish along with a few sea urchins.

After doing our safety stop and hopping back on the boat, we quickly packed up our dive gear and securely stowed it as we had a three-and-a-half-hour sail ahead of us to Savannah Bay.

The water was exceptionally calm and very blue, though a little more wind would have been very much appreciated. Along the way, we read the navigation segment in our Advanced Open Water booklets. After that, most of us took naps either inside or on the trampoline.

A short while later, we pulled into Savannah bay and anchored. We reviewed the work we did along the way with Ri and then took our boat showers, which basically entail jumping in the ocean, soaping up, jumping back in the ocean to wash the soap off, and then rinsing off with fresh water.

For dinner, we had a salad with Alfredo and sliced hotdogs. And then, after dinner, as is the tradition, the skipper of the day (myself in this case) poses a question to everyone, which we go around in a circle answering. My question was, “Is cereal technically a soup?” A bunch of people said no, and a bunch of other people also said yes. Personally, I think it is a soup, as a soup is defined as “solid food, suspended in a liquid,” which cereal fulfills. Though you can say that a soup has to be cooked, which cereal is not. So it can really go both ways. What do you think? Overall, we had a great day, which was finished off by a gorgeous sunset. Hopefully, tomorrow is just as fun!
