Check out a typical Vega Voyage itinerary below! We've split the 21-day voyage into three, week long pages so please use the controls above to switch from week to week.
Day 1
Location: West End, Tortola
Morning:
Shipmates depart all points of the globe headed for the British Virgin Islands!
Afternoon:
Meet Staff in San Juan and make connection to Tortola. Arrive onboard, unpack your bags, go for a swim and get to know your shipmates!
Evening:
The adventures in the galley begin as you and your crew whip up the first meal aboard. Following dinner and dishes, we gather for the program orientation and staff introductions under the stars.
Day 2
Location: West End sail to Norman Island
Morning:
Up early, usually with the aide of the island roosters! Quick breakfast and then the entire program gets together for an interactive teambuilding activity on the dock before dropping our lines and setting sail for Norman Island.
Afternoon:
After an exciting first sail, we arrive at Norman Island, enjoy sandwiches for lunch and then go for a snorkel through the once treasure filled 'Caves'.
Evening:
After the quick motor from the Caves into the Bight, we anchor in the shadow of Spyglass hill to shower, have dinner and prepare for our first "SCUBA chat" (classroom introduction to SCUBA diving).
Day 3
Location: Norman Island to Savannah Bay
Morning:
The trend of waking up early continues as we get an early start for the fantastic training sail up Sir Francis Drake Channel.
Afternoon:
After anchoring half way to Virgin Gorda for a quick swim and lunch, we set our sails again, making sure everyone has a turn at each job aboard while we work through learning 'person overboard' and the points of sail.
Evening:
As the golden afternoon sun begins to fade, we drop our anchors just off the sugar white beach in Savannah Bay. Once anchored, the chefs begin to create our evening meal while the rest of the crew tidies up the vessel. Post dinner, we gather for our second SCUBA chat with the excitement of our first dive the following day.
Day 4
Location: Savannah Bay
Morning:
As the sun rises, so too does the level of energy and activity, on what will be a day of many firsts. While the yachts we live aboard will not sail today, we will go for our first SCUBA dive, have our first windsurfing lesson, learn how to drive the dinghy, get out in the water ski boats for some waterskiing and wakeboarding and get an advanced lesson in anchoring and docking.
Afternoon:
Lunch comes and goes in a blur of activity and as the sun starts to set, you will finally begin to get your head around all you have done in this very busy day of fun, learning and adventure.
Evening:
After another wonderful meal, courtesy of yourself and your fellow shipmates, it is time to get together with a number of other boats for an evening of interaction and discovery that is part of the Lifeworks Forum.
Day 5
Location: Savannah Bay to the Baths then to Gorda Sound
Morning:
As we make passage out of Savannah Bay and around the infamous 'Whale Rock Point' we begin to see in the distance The Baths, one of the British Virgin Islands' true natural treasures. We spend the morning climbing, swimming and exploring this amazing formation of granite boulders before pulling up anchors and heading for our first port of call in Spanish Town.
Afternoon:
The harbour of Spanish Town offers a chance to call home, grab an ice cream ashore and pick up any odds and ends needed. Once back out on the water, we have a high energy sail up past the eastern tip of Virgin Gorda and into North Sound, where we will spend the next couple of days.
Evening:
With the entire fleet rafted up with our sterns tied to the beach, the usual meal preparation and shower time take an entirely more social turn. The evening finds us again meeting in small groups to work on our knowledge of SCUBA diving and the underwater world.
Day 6
Location: Vixen Point
Morning:
Another full activity day begins early at Vixen point, with shipmates having the opportunity to build on their skills in SCUBA diving, water skiing/wakeboarding, windsurfing and basic seamanship. Gorda sound also offers the perfect conditions and equipment to further our small boat sailing skills using Laser Picos and Hunter 19s from The Bitter End Yacht Club.
Afternoon:
The amazing pace of learning and activity continue through the afternoon and by the end of the day, we will again have done more in one day than some people do in a week.
Evening:
The evening's activities for our second night at Vixen Point see the crews really putting a focus on mastering the nomenclature and theory behind the science and practice of sailing. By this point, the lingo is starting to come more naturally, by reinforcing the lessons learned on the water that day, everyone is beginning to feel like a real sailor.
Day 7
Location: Vixen Point
Morning:
Day two at Vixen Point sees the same flurry of activity as the day before and shipmates begin to really solidify the skills they are learning. For the second day, Gorda Sound provides the perfect winds and calm water coupled with the right mix of sailing craft to really give shipmates the feel for sailing.
Afternoon:
In addition to moving towards certification in SCUBA diving, shipmates have now had enough instruction in water skiing and wakeboarding that they are making the move to try the slalom ski or starting to catch some air on the wakeboard! As the late afternoon approaches, focus turns to the excitement of the beach barbeque and the D.J. that will be spinning tunes at the private beach party slated for our last evening in Gorda Sound.
Evening:
All the favorite beach barbeque staples are prepared and ready and for the first time during the trip there are no dishes! The evening plans call for a wonderful sunset and dancing to the sound of the island beats!
